In a way I am glad that in Britain Remembrance Day in November is not a public holiday as I fear that would be the same.

The day is is similar to your Veteran's and Memorial Day rolled into one but the main events are at the weekend the Saturday evening event at the Royal Albert Hall and the Sunday service at the Cenotaph attending. At these services all branches of the Service are represented including emergency and ancillary folk, the guides and Scouts also attend with their flags and even lay a reef at the Cenotaph.

As promised here is some information about our Remembrance Day or Poppy Day as many call it.

I was in Korea for the first anniversary of 9-11, and was given a silk poppy. Commander of the 51st authorized it EARLY that morning for wear with BDUs. I proudly wore it that day, and it sits in my truck, to remind me, every day.
