I always get in on music threads after about 100 posts so I thought I'd start my own.
What is the best country music...old and new? Here's mine.
Buddy Miller
Kieran Kane
Billy Joe Shaver
Slaid Cleaves
Hayes Carll
LeeAnn Womack
Charlie Rich
Paul Burch
Thad Cockrell
Hank Williams, Sr.
Lefty Frizelle.
Hank Williams.
George Strait.
Some of us his stuff is a little too novelty-ish for me but there's some great stuff among his work. And he's a heck of a guitar-picker, too,
Spade Cooley? Wow! I haven’t heard that name in years! Thanks for the reminder.
The father of country music, “The Singing Brakeman”, Jimmie Rodgers. (This is the Jimmie Rodgers of the 20’s and 30’s, not the “Honeycomb” Jimmie Rodgers of the 50’s.)

Absolutely.
Oops, here’s the correct link for Jimmie Rodgers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmie_Rodgers_%28country_singer%29
Frog Holler is another band making great country/bluegrass music.
Amos Moses was a hell of man.
The new stuff peddled as Country is junk.
This music that passes for country these days is largely a pretty poor excuse for country music. Like most here, I seem to prefer the old stuff.
Waylon
Merle
Johnny Cash
Old Hank
even “western” music:
sons of the pioneers and such.
Fortunately we have a “country legends” radio station here that keeps me happy.
Can’t argue with any of those, except perhaps HW Jr.
Just a few of my favorites:
David Allan Coe
Charlie Pride
Patty Lovelace
Toby Keith
Clint Black
Alan Jackson
Dwight Yoakam
Reba
Glen Campbell
Buck Owens
I’m sure I forgot many.....
George Strait, George Strait, George Strait...
If you get tired of that then George Strait, George Strait, George Strait...
Maybe a little Zona Jones, George Jones, Ray Price, Charlie Pride, Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnut, Little Texas ( anything prior to about 1990-95 ). If you cannot two-step or waltz to it it is garbage.
NO, NO , NO Tim McGraw or his screeching wife, Kenny Chesney, Gretchen ( I got me GED ) Wilson, Trace Adkins, or anyone else who wears a shirt with no sleeves.
I went to a reunion in Turkey Texas when they were all alive. A great weekend or music and BBQ.
Jason Boland and the Stragglers
Chris Knight
Adam Hood
Randy Rogers Band
Stoney Larue
Ryan Bingham
Micky and the Motorcars
Reckless Kelly
