Every Catholic I see in church personally lives according to conservative principles. They are generally appalled by the average RAT politician, especially since conservatism in that party has been suppressed. But if faced with a hard choice between their faith, and their party, bye-bye Faith.

Probably, because most would still be Democrats, for the same reason most Catholics were always Democrats. This generation of Bishops has incorporated the 'option for the poor', which was championed by Cardinal Bernardin and his generation, so they think the Democrats are better on issues for the poor than the Republicans.
