Okay cat people (sorry if I missed any of the feline persuasion).

I need help knowing that I’m doing the right thing with Abby. I’ll be taking her at 5:30 tomorrow night to the vet. I can make the decision then or bring her back.

She is eating and drinking. But she’s only moving from her bed area to under the piano (about 10ft) and back. A couple of times she’s gone on either the blanket or her bed. She’s using the box to poop.

I can’t tell if she’s in pain. But she’s not motivated to do anything. Even moving her to the back door where she could look out didn’t help. She wanted to be in the dark instead.

When we took her last time, the vet said if the steroid and antibiotic didn’t work then it was likely cancer.

Thoughts?

Of the four cats we've had over the years, we made the decision to put two down that were ~failing~ and just wanted to stay in the dark. Neither was eating or drinking, and there was no quality of life anymore. The worse thing is ... you keep hoping they will pass away in between the times you check on them, 'cause there's nothing you can do to help them, but they don't.

Gosh, I don’t know Corin... It’s hard when they are just dwindling. I’ve been there. Follow your heart. She can’t tell you when she hurts, you just have to watch her and see if she’s still enjoying and livin’ life or not or if there’s anything you can or should do.

It sounds like she isn’t getting any more enjoyment out of life. She’s still eating, but maybe that’s when you want to let it happen... not two weeks from now. The vet appointments take way too long. If you could get her in as soon as she stopped eating I might say something different but you don’t want her to stop eating or get in some real pain and be three days out from helping her.

It’s a really tough call... :-\ I’m not sure I have any advice. My first thought when she started this behavior was that she likely had some sort of infection, but if she’s really not improving at all and the vet thinks it’s some form of cancer, there’s not a lot that can be done.

It sure would be nice if they had a more definite idea, but it isn’t generally that simple, I know.

I so wish you could be spared all this right now, Corin. It’s not fair.
