The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well, it’s August tomorrow so let’s start crackin’!

I have no idea what I’m writing yet either. Maybe something in my - well, as Talon said, I need a better term than “Harry Potter in Space” universe, but I haven’t got a better explanation yet even though that’s almost completely misleading.

Basically, it’s science fiction where all the high-techy stuff is really magic. I have a particular story I want to tell there but I need a better grip on the universe first.

Yep. August 1. 30 years to the day since my Dad passed away. Still miss him.

Not trying to be maudlin. It’s just hard to get past that date without remembering.

I’m on the road tomorrow with the trolls. Maybe I’ll have time to think up a plot/storyline for Nano.

LOL! Funny!

I was up for three hours in the night last night. This is getting annoying.

I hit the pillow like a rock, sleep soundly from about 10:30pm till a little after 2am then zing!!! It’s like I’m completely wide awake. I finally get back to sleep around 5:30am...which messes me up because then I sleep too late. I just got up about 45 minutes ago.

Oh well...I got a lot of the boys’ school organized for this next year.

Same thing happened to me. I just got back up around the same time you did. Coincidence?

I had that happen the other night, but I blame the dog. He had to go out at 1:00 a.m.

Then at 3:00 a.m. and again at 4:00 a.m. he had gas bad enough to wake me up...

Had an awful experience yesterday...

It's hot. Lower 100s and as you know...these meat chickens don't do heat well. So Steve and I were talking on Tuesday that we ought to go ahead and process them as quick as possible before we loose more (we've lost two).

So yesterday morning, he set five apart and took away their feed...still had their water, of course.

I made sure they had water all day but at 4 pm, I went out to start setting up for the process when I saw THREE of the five in the throes of dying! ACK!! Steve had piled up all this 1” thick 4x8 lumber on top of the cages (they have hinged lids for access) and had jammed a big cedar post into the fence to hold the lumber on (we were expecting thunderstorms), so it was extremely difficult for me to get that lumber off. I started pulling at it with my bare hands trying to get to them chickens and cool them off before they died.

Two of them literally died in the minutes it took for me to get the lumber off...I was frantic and felt awful. I did manage to get one and hose it off and save it. About that time, Steve came home. He buried the two dead ones and then we processed the other three we'd set apart.

Very disheartening after all the work I'd put in to them, but it's the chance you take letting them live this long in this heat.

We have four left and they're getting processed this evening. Lord willing.

Have you tried Bigelow’s Sweet Dreams Herb Tea? OB drinks is almost every night, and I use it occassionally. It really stops the ~mind-churning~ that you sometimes get in the wee hours of the morning, without leaving you “stupid” when you need to get up. LSA

No, I haven’t...and I believe I have some up in the cabinet. I’ll give that a try! It’s good stuff anyway.

Anniversaries like that are always tough. :-\

As for Nano...I’m still planning on figuring it out at the last minute. I can’t think writing until the weather gets cold anyhow. I don’t think I could finish NaNo in, say, Texas.

I like Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime, too. Basically just mint and chamomile. Very nice.

Really cool looking sky out there! I don’t know if it’s as clear down there, but it’s very interesting up here - all wind blown and stuff.

We've used the Celestial Seasonings, too. I think I like the Bigelow's better 'cause each bag is individually wrapped which keeps it fresher, and Bigelow's a bit less expensive.

I really need to get in the habit of writing in months that aren’t November.

I wrote all spring. Then it warmed up. ;-)

Actually, it’s been chilly in the mornings here, so I may get in some writing yet...

I’m still working on last year’s NaNo. Why, I dunno.

You need to set a small sprinkler upside down in the lid and just crank it up whenever.
