Dang, 2J...

Praying for you! Here’s hoping they finally get this sorted out!

Ok..went to the neurologist and she thinks what happened yesterday was a migraine, but because of the spike in blood pressure and because of the chronic since February blurry vision in the right eye, she is going to do an MRI of my brain, an MRA of my brain, and an EEG and just to be thorough, a bone scan of my back to find out why it’s hurting.

So that should be getting set up over the next few weeks.

Hurry up and wait.

Oh...the weirdest thing that happened during the episode yesterday was this...I was sitting at the table and Matthew was sitting to my right. He completely disappeared. You know how your field of vision ends at a point along side of your head? Well, my field of vision ended right slap dab in front of my right eye. It didn’t look any weirder than if it ended where it naturally does, though. But then Matthew reached across the front of me to get a coke and it was like this disembodied arm floated out in front of me!! From like his elbow to his fingertips...not attached to anything.

I knew what was happening and was monitoring myself closely, so I wasn’t totally freaking out or anything...I actually laughed.

The pins don't seat nicely in the holes like the ones on my Collings (a superb small-shop built guitar I don't deserve and wouldn't be able to afford these days...they've gone up a LOT in price over the past decade!) They stick up unevenly 'cause the holes are just drilled straight and the pins are tapered and only go partway in. In my opinion (and the opinion of several of the guitar builders on the list), there's no excuse for that on expensive, high-end Martins. It takes about ten minutes to finish off details like that, and apparently they don't think it's worth paying someone to do it.

The opponents mostly say "Yeah, but most true guitar fanatics are gonna replace the pins with something fancier and mess with the holes anyway, so what's the big deal?" Or something like that. Me, I don't tinker, so it *would* bug me. Luckily I have the Toyota (or Lexus) of guitars -- perfectly finished and utterly dependable -- so it don't matter much, but....

I just think it's sad that they don't bother with some of the detail work. They make very good guitars, for the most part. Why not go all the way?

Well...at least they’re finally the tests you’ve been hoping for, for the most part, no? :-\ What’s an MRA?

It just really stinks that this is dragging on so long.

I also somewhat unwittingly started a mild flame war on the guitar list this morning, concerning a) whether the way Martin bridge pins are set from the factory is wrong, and b) if it's really a big deal if they *are* wrong.

Gots pictures? SirKit was curious, because he has a Martin guitar, a D-18, though it is 'middle-aged' at this point, like us. ;o) He bought it in 1972, while he was in college.

Well, it's good that some hard core tests are finally gonna get done. Keep bugging them about getting those set up!

I went for a check up today, and my BP was 116-72, and my weight is down, so the Doc was pleased. He said I needed to talk to the Cardio guy about getting off some of these meds. I go to see him on the 29th, and I WILL bug him. ;o)

SirKit just looked up MRA, and it's Magnetic Resonance Angiography. Sounds like a Heart Catheterization, cept for the brain, instead.

I'm glad that's being done, 2J, because that could show if you in fact have had any little strokes, as you'd wondered at one point, or if there are any blockages.

It won’t let me link to the image, but there’s a picture of bridge pins sitting up high on this page:
http://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/guitarbridgepins.htm

The bridge pins don’t have to fit tightly. They’re held in place by the tension on the string, not by friction. When they sit high like that, there’s a tendency to push ‘em in tight, which puts stress on the bridge, which is expensive to repair should it crack.

On the Collings, they just drop in, and stay put. It’s just a detail, but EVERY detail on the Collings is pretty much perfect. It just works. I love that little thing.... Wouldn’t mind having a second someday, if I got rich. The one I have is essentially an OM-18 (SirKit would probably know what that means - basically a small-bodied version of a D-18, with mahogany back and sides), and it’d be cool to also have their interpretation of an OM-28 (rosewood back and sides). Bassier sound, not quite as bright. Both are good, but they’re different. The rosewood would sound a bit fuller and deeper for bluegrass chords and such, but maybe not as clear on fingerstyle/classical style pieces. In my opinion.

I’ll shut up now....

Anyone ever broke a tailbone?

Just wondering how much longer I can look forward to shooting pains every time I shift my seat.

A week ago I fell on my way down the stairs for my morning shower. I think I mentioned it then.

It’s actually a lot better... it now only hurts when I move suddenly rather than all the flipping time.

OW!

It might have been whilst I was at thebeach. Or otherwise I just missed it. Hope you’re all better soon.

Yikes, that sounds like the real-deal testing. Let’s hope and pray that the tests reveal something easily correctable. Get tested soon and get well sooner. OB & LSA
