I've maintained my 99 Jimmy (68,000 miles) carefully, and recently had a water pump leak (which also required new head gaskets) fixed, costing me $1600. Steep, but everything ran like a top.
Until last week, when a noticeable knock started. I took it to the same garage that has always worked on it since the warranty and the dealer expired.
They called me today, and asked if I remembered the head gaskets. I said I did. They say, don't worry, they're still fine. But you have a main crankshaft bearing failure.
With a bad engine, it's worth $500 for parts (vey nice parts, no rust, immaculate interior, $600 of new tires), or $4K with labor for a rebuilt engine with 3 years parts/labor warranty.
I'm going for the new engine, and then turn around and sell it. Even if the engine was good for another three years, I could have another catastrophic failure elsewhere. Besides, GM is offering hugh rebates on SUVs (including the midsize ones I favor) this month.
The two other 4.6l V6s I've had were running strong, with no major repairs, when I traded in the vehicles at 125,000 and 175,000 miles. 68,000 miles on this one, and I need a new engine.
In the good news department, I found more ammo when I started straightening up my work area in the basement. I found about 1500 rounds of M193 (that stuff is coming out of my ears), 1000 rounds of M885, and 500 rounds of 7.62x51 ball, all neatly packed in ammo cans.
I remember doing a clean-up three years ago, and put that ammo "temporarily" on a bottom shelf, until I could find a permanent home. Unfortunately, I also "temporarily" put something else in front of it, and lost sight of it.
Now my "lost sheep" are found, and returned to the "flock", which is harder to lose track of.
Oh, winmag, that just bites! Think you’ve got a good plan mapped out. What mid-size models are you favoring? LSA
I’ve never had trouble with any firearms but my piece of junk 15 year old car finally gave out last year, after costing me over a thousand $.
Yay for found ammo!
*snort*
And I also found a M14 magazine. Why I had it, I don't know, since I never owned an M1A. But I had this feeling I had one lurking around somewhere.
I would dearly love to check out that setup.
We’re going to nail a cone (upside down milk jug) to a tree, and use the bbq grill to keep the scalding water hot and freeze soda bottles of water to keep the water cold for the cool-down. We intend to do four or five at a time...the biggest ones first.
Hey! Our rabbits look like they may kindle any day! They started making nests in their boxes yesterday.
Is it rough going with the chemo right now?
And, um, what will the neighbors think of your backyard slaughterhouse?
It’s only rough during and a day or two after. Next month will be the half way point.
It sounds like what you’re gonna do will work. You could always heat the water inside and then take it out if the grill is too hard. It was an interesting day, and the weather was overcast...got a little wet, but much better than a hot sunny day.
Good luck with your bunnies and chickens.

The rabbits had their first litters. Rose kindled first...she had I think about 7 (it’s hard to tell...they’re a big jumble of pink.) Hyacinth looked totally freaked out this morning and I thought she’d eaten hers before I could find them. But she hadn’t...she had them during VBS and when I got home I found a half a dozen babies spread out on the floor of the cage, all alive thankfully! Don’t know if they’ll stay that way though, Hyacinth is a total wreck. She’s liable to kill them.
I picked up all her fur I could find (it was spread out all over) and put it in the next box, then nestled the babies in. Maybe she’ll get the idea.
She only gets two chances at this.
only two?... :-)

Evening G’nad, Mrsnad. That’s a nice looking mini-van. Congrats. Looks like you’re a Dodge Brother’s family now. :-)
Yes! It’s Caturday!!
?She never got 'the talk' from her mother, I guess.
Some years ago my wife and I had a couple of Dutch rabbits, bred them omce and sold the babies to a pet store.

You can just hear the wheels turning inside the cat's head.
I found half-day-old bagels relevant to my interests when I got in to work today.
