Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I’ll have a talk with Talon about that...
Great gravy, Jen! I’m catching up!
How’s the power situation?
Oh yeah - when are you leaving?
Don't get swept away by a twister!
Ouch is right? What about toilet flushing? Ack! I've seen footage on the news here of your area... looks awful.
A little wet here...
Heh...along this same topic...before we went on vacation, Steve took all the rabbit droppings...a five gallon bucket full, and spread it on the front yard. (It doesn’t have an odor when it’s all spread out like that.)
Then apparently it rained and rained while we were gone and the yard was lush green and deep when we got back! Heh heh!!
We collect the poop by placing a large piece of porch screen under the cages...a couple of times a week, we pick up the screen and just pour the completely dry pellets into the bucket and then spray down the ground where it was.
It’s the best fertilizer, it doesn’t burn.
We have power. It seems stable. We’ve got a bathtub full of water for toilet flushing... I just went to the store and got six gallons of water and some wet wipes and things. We’ll make the best of it.
All the best to all of you in storm country!
Hey! I forgot! While we were gone, your package came! The kids were very surprised and have enjoyed the movies very much!
I leave Saturday night. Get there around one in the afternoon on Sunday. Gonna be a long trip. :-\
Oh joy...
Why the water restriction? I think I missed that. With the flooding, seems like they’d say “use it but don’t drink it” instead of the other way around.
I guess! Have you got really long layovers or what?
When do you come back?
Not a seriously long layover - it’s just a long way away. Diagonal line from here, so it’s almost as far as you can go across the US. And the end time is actually three hours earlier than that here. Stinks that I have to arrive sleep deprived, though. The registration time is one to five in the afternoon, and any of the flights leaving here at a decent hour didn’t arrive until after five their time.
I get back next Sunday afternoon.
Well, yeah - but our flights to Florida didn’t take that long... I guess when you say Saturday night you mean really late?
wuz wonderin’ about that...
...the homemade DVD is made from an auncient and venerabable VHS tape I found in a second-0hand store :)
We lost 3/4 of the water capacity at the city wells.
HyVee is stocking water on the shelves - they’ve got hundreds of boxes they’re unloading. The customers are pulling it off the shelves faster.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I believe I’ve suggested the use of rain barrels in the past. I’m just sayin’ is all.
The flight leaves at 12:30AM (Sunday, actually), so I get picked up here at about a quarter to nine at night on Saturday.
I think it *might* be less total travel time if I left on one of the six or seven AM flights, but I wouldn’t get in until too late. And there aren’t direct flights from here to Knoxville, which adds to the time. It’s a little airport.
I also have to get a taxi from the college at something like four AM at the end of camp for a six AM flight (later flights were literally a couple hundred dollars more), and haven’t figured that part out yet. Ungh. I’m looking forward to all of this but the travel, but my mouth goes dry thinking about all the things that could go wrong with the travel portion.
Just have your cell phone with you, and charged up, and almost every problem is solvable. :~)
I’ve got barrels... about a hundred gallons stored, not counting the misc. small bottles stored here in the house, and the dozen or so full buckets for toilet flushing.
They just weren’t filled with rain water. Well, not directly. :~)
