And — I’m gonna blame the Indiana Jones movie for this — I spent way too much at Amazon downloads this morning for stuff like Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers...
I’m on a 50s / early 60s vibe for a bit. ;-) It goes with the typewriters and fountain pens, I guess. I was irritated that none of the typewriters in the movie were shown all that well on camera. Especially as I think one of ‘em was actually from well into the 60s and I wanted to be sure before mocking ‘em for it.
Do you have lava lamps at night too?
I love systems like that. The Fort Collins system worked the same way.
Need to hit the library again... guess I’ll start going this week. I’m working 4 nine hour days and a half day Friday the rest of the summer.
We went to the gun show... fondled some nice stuff, bought some magazines for our Bersa 380 and my P22, bought some accessories for Talon’s AR. Then we got a big handbook on reloading... going to place some orders for reloading gear soon.
Now, that's the quickest case of ask and ye shall receive that I've ever seen!!
The music started at 3:00 and it's loud enough I can hear it in the house with the windows closed and the air conditioner on (sigh). It's going to be a long night.

The plan was to put the sweet potatoes in the front planter box where the soil is looser and the rabbits probably wouldn’t find them.
I put my Burpee order in back in February or March and ever since the end of April I’ve been looking at that box wondering...”I did order potatoes, didn’t I?” If I didn’t get those ‘taters before next weekend I was going to go find something else to plant there.
It’s odd that it took so long to get them. Were sweet potatoes backordered? They will look really nice in that planter box in the front.
Did I mention I planted my parsley and basil in pots since didn’t want the painters stepping on them? Painters won’t be here ‘til September, but that’s okay. I can harvest the basil and parsley ‘til pretty late in the fall, what with global warming and all.

They ship the slips at planting time...guess I wanted to plant too early. Thanks to AlGore, it’s probably still too early to plant.
Not to change the subject, but has anyone started the live Belmont Stakes Triple Crown thread yet? I looked but couldn’t find it. The race will start in a few minutes! bttt
woohoo!!! yeah baby!...
First, I put one of their throw lever mounts on my old ACOG, replacing the ARMS mount. Nothing special, except the new mount is about 1/16th lower.
Next, I tried out the GG&G BCOMP, a little goodie that mounts a mini red-dot sight, and includes a place to store batteries. It's intended to be mounted at the 1:30 position on the scope, so you cant your rifle 45 degrees and then use the red dot for close-in work.
However, looking at the old Hensholdt scope for my HK91, I saw some other possibilities. The unit is actually an eight-sided 30mm ring, and the mounting platform and battery compartment can be put in various locations.
The interesting part is that this is a STANAG scope, and the tube diameter is 27.5mm. However, with the ridge on the bottom of the tube added on, it comes out to 30mm (GG&G only makes this in 30mm size right now). So, thanks to some creative tinkering, and low turrets, I now have this 21st century mod installed on the ol' scope:
I had to mount it on the front half of the scope, so it's a few inches further forward than I'd like, but it doesn't interfere with anything, including the reticle illuminator it took ages for me to find. Here are top and right-side views:
The last GG&G item is another one of their throw-lever mounts, this time with the Aimpoint CompM4 on top. This is my M1A plinker (I think I'll try waste baskets at 100 yards), with the new scope:
The only problem now is the M14 stock. It's designed to work strictly with the iron sights only. Any optical device, no matter how low it's mounted, is too high with the low comb of the stock. Even the new "designated marksmen" M14 the military is getting has some sort of add-on cheekpiece to use with a scope.
Of course, you could always get an entirely new stock system. And this one, by J Allen Enterprises, is a complete "system" that you configure, right down the the seven decorator colors available.
One drawback is that it costs about 75% of what the whole rifle cost me in the first place. Scratch that, this is just a plinker.
Instead, I think I'll try this $50 adjustable cheekpiece that requires drilling two holes through the stock. With the pattern they include, I don't see it as a big mechanical challenge.
The cheekpiece should wrap up work on the M1A. Now to squeeze in some trigger time somewhere.
Excellent. Ya keep this up, I’ll have to get direct deposit to GG&G :o}
Yeah 300 has more toys than me and that is somethin ! I may have too get back in my gun of the month club.
Did ya’ll see this video ?
Too funny !

poor kid........LOL !
I had a ten-year dry spell, due to financial issues. Now I have enough resources to (occasionally) wander through a gun store, see some long gun (need purchase permits in Michigan for handguns), pull out the debit card, and walk out with it once the paperwork is done. I am not going to buy a Corvette ZR1, so the money I saved went into my "toy" fund.
I almost bought a "brand new" Jap Browning .22 autoloader at a Gander Mountain store. The Jap ones are vey nice, they just don't say "Belgium" on them.
This one had some sort of urethane finish on the stock like Remington uses. This particular one had white opaque areas under the finish, along with bumps and dings. Very nice walnut, but definitely not NIB, especially since even the Japanese models were discontinued ages ago.
I tried to dicker, and pointed out the flaws in the stock. The cluck agreed to give me a discount. The price tag said $549, and he said I could have it for $500. I was thinking more in terms of $350, so it's still there.
I'll find one to rescue somewhere else, at the proper price. I was looking at stripping off all that plastic finish, clean up the wood, repoint the checkering, and then going with an oil finish. Some day my Browning will come in.
I'm finding GG&G, Midwest Industries, and Smith Enterprises to be "occasions of rifle sin". I found another M14 porn site, and have more goodies coming in.
I think a mistress is cheaper, but at least a rifle never pouts because you don't take it out for dinner and dancing.
I looked that up. It's from ancient Urdu! No wonder I've always called them "pads", as every other person who has put a sheepskin or foam pad under the saddle. Equine terminology is either English, French, or German. No fair dragging in some ancient language nobody in their right mind speaks.
Yep. I’ve never had a carbine ask me “so, what are you thinking about now?” ...
Understand.... I will answer in the AM from CPU. . Posting from my blackberry curve right now. No good for good gun porn !!
Night 300 !!
This is about 3/4 of the way down the fenceline, looking back...
We got two sides of the pasture cut back, one more side that is like this to do today...
And some kitten pics... a rather contented Ewok kitten.
And this... Well... they are Gidget's kittens...
Morning Win-mag That’s a fine addition to the optics. Say, that Allen stock for the M1A sure looks it would do the job. Seeing how it it tan w/black accents, I wonder if this would qualify as an EBR?
