This was my lame attempt at poetry. It is something that happened Friday night. I had spent two weeks cutting down the old evergreen hedges in front of my house. Then nearly put myself in the hospital digging up the roots. finally got the ground prepared and went and bought six expensive new shrubs. Dugs the holes, fertilized, planted, and mulched them. Put a concrete borderin front of them. Beautiful. I was so happy with my "new" look.
Friday morning I went out to admire my labor only to discover that somebody had pulled up and abscounded with one of my shrubs. I was left with a hole in the ground and red mulch scattered all over. I was livid. Called the local Barney Fife. He was very supportive. He said, "Somebody stole your shrub? That's mean." Yes, that was mean. LOL.
Long story short. One of my neighbors ended up with the shrub in her front yard. She found out who it belonged to and brought it back to me. I replanted and hopefully it will survive. I'm running out every few minutes now to make sure it doesn't happen again. Dopey kids. If they keep this up, I'm going to sit them all down and read the Bible to them.
A Thief in the Night
It seemed a symbol of life somehow,
That empty hole there filled with mulch and mud.
A mere week since the work began,
cutting, digging, planting, replacing old with new.
Only to find Friday morning,
Some thief in the night had stolen my shrub.
Don't we labor and toil to gain
the treasures which promise us gold?
Putting all our trophies on display,
working, getting, hoarding, replacing old with new.
Only to find final morning,
the devil in the night has stolen our soul.
