Yes. I watched the Memorial Day Tribute on the Mall last night on PBS. Went through half a box of Kleenex.
Love and hugs from this still sick girl in California. I'd still be in bed but Chachi insisted I get up with him. For some reason he didn't INSIST that JK get up with him.........no, just like with kids, it HAS to be MOM. :-(
Chachi has since been out, had is treats and is back in bed! Can you believe it?? LOL
The rhythm of the drums comes through, The marching of the feet, Sometimes a shrill reminder, From the fifes piercing tweet. I stir a bit, as if to join, The celebrators there, But then I settle down again, Like dust motes in still air. There was a time I strode about, And shouted with the boys, A time when we were conquerors, Equipped with brand new toys. We leaped across the oceans! We flew up in the air! And girls looked down and smiled at us, Encouraging our stare. We would return. We knew it! We were too young to die. And so we took our weapons up, And never asked them why. Why would we study History? What did we know of War? We only did what young men do, And whats been done before. But lately, Ive been thinking. Ive had some time for that. I should have studied more in school, Not jumped at the drop of a hat. Dont get me wrong! Im no coward! I would still have gone, Im sure, But at least I could tell my buddies, What it was we had tried to secure. |
You see, theres a dream that we live for, And which we will die for, too. This sleep that Im sleeping reminds me, That I ought to just share it with you. I dreamed of a world full of wonder, Where the walls were just marks on the land, Of whose farms had the prettiest apples, Or where showed our Grandfathers hand. And a gate was a door to a new place, You could visit, if youd mind to behave, And a beach was one twin with a brother, You could see just beyond that big wave. I could walk into China like Polo, And say Hi to the Emperor there, And hed smile and hed say something funny, And hed tell me to pull up a chair. Then wed chat about silk and wed chuckle, And hed beat me a lot playing chess, And then finally Id have to say so long, You come visit my folks in the US. Id walk down the road where the world is, Id be glancing around at the view. Id be looking real hard for a nice place, And for something important to do. So I guess I shouldnt complain, then, Having fallen into this place, I managed to live out a part of that dream, And Im here with a smile on my face. It wasnt the nicest real estate, And it doesnt have much of a view, But I paid for it with the fame I sought, And at least Im important to you. NicknamedBob . . . . . . . May 18, 2006 |
They are special. Looking forward to more
We owe so much to our men and women in uniform. I never forget what Memorial Day is all about.
Beautiful, NnB.
Thank You.
NnB,
I’m glad you reposted this. I somehow missed it in 06.
Thanks

Still sick? Girl, are you getting any meds? You might want to go back to the dr. Don’t let this go into Pneumonia. You guys have had HOT weather too, haven’t you? Having a cold when it’s hot is not good. I’m praying for your relief ASAP. <P.Chachi is smarter by half. Like kids, he knows on which side his bread is buttered. LOL.
absolutely wonderful Meg!
Bob, your poetry is simply Robert Frost excellent. Thank you. I hope you don’t mind that I save your poems so I can read them over and over.
If Hayley is your first grandaughter, you have no idea what you have in store for you. Heart-melting love and joy unbelievable.
Oh, I am watching it real close. It's just a miserable cold at this point. I am taking OTC Nyquil and DayCare. They help relieve the worst of the symptoms. If I don't start feeling better by the middle of next week, I will call the doctor. I've got to get better. Our vacation is coming up! :-)
Thank you,(((Dolly))).
Well .... darn. I’ve been looking for a graphic with one of your poems but can’t seem to find it.
Maybe I’ll find it later today.
Sigh.
A beautiful tribute, MamaBear..Thank you.
Hadley is my first grandchild of either type. Her mom was my first child. Her mom prepped me for what you describe. I also have a son who is 17 months younger than his sister. He just turned 27 this month and my daughter will be 29 in Dec.
I love both my children and both have shone so much love in return. But I wanted a daughter first. The Lord blessed me with that and then gave me a son not too long after.
But daughters and granddaughters are very special. I highly recommend them.
You do know that I charge for that, don't you?
