Hi Amy,

Sorry I missed May Day, but Happy International Tuba Day!

And on a more somber note...

Happy "National Truffles Day"!

Today is also the anniversary of the end of Lou Gehrig's 2,130 Game Streak.

Another Holiday source lists today as International Tuba Day
and Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Enjoy your truffles as you contemplate playing the Tuba.

“Today is the day Lou Gehrig's hitting streak in 2,130 games came to an end.”

Actually, Joe DiMaggio has the record hitting streak at 56 consecutive games. Lou's record, at the time, was 2,130 consecutive games played!

Lou Gehrig retired from baseball in 1939.

Below is Lou Gehrig's farewell speech.

"Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I got. Yet today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I have been to ballparks for seventeen years and I have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans. Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day? Sure I’m lucky. Who wouldn’t have considered it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure, I'm lucky. When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat and vice versa, sends you a gift, that’s something. When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in the white coats remember you with trophies, that’s something. When you have a father and mother who work all their lives so that you can have an education and build your body, it's a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed, that's the finest I know. So I close by saying that I might have been given a bad break, but I've got an an awful lot to live for. Thank you."

The Sports World lost a true hero.

OESY .... you and your wife are in my prayers.
Hugs to both of you.

NATIONAL HOLOCAUST DAY

Light A Candle for Holocaust Memorial Day

If you want to show your support for Holocaust Memorial Day this year, why not join us in ‘lighting a candle’? On your own or with a group of people, this simple but powerful action serves as a remembrance of the millions of people who were killed in the Holocaust and other genocides, just because they were “different”. It also symbolises our commitment to learning the lessons of the past and creating an inclusive society for the future.

You could light a candle or even organise your own candle-inspired activities, such as putting together a mural of candle pictures, projecting a candle image or placing a candle image on your website.

Lighting a candle is a Jewish custom to remember people who have passed away. It is also symbolic in many other faiths including Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for us to remember those who have suffered and lost their lives during the Holocaust and other atrocities.

By lighting a candle you are showing your support at embracing diversity and dispelling the darkness that racism, oppression and ignorance can lead to.
