I don't understand. Not being a Linux weenie somebody help me out here. Why does his conviction "seal the fate" of ReiserFS and Reiser4? Is there another popular journaling FS out there?
Several. The most commonly used, even more so than ReiserFS, is ext3. ReiserFS can be faster under certain circumstances, although ext3 has other advantages over ReiserFS such as lower CPU utilization.

Before the murder, ReiserFS was a common choice in Linux installations (SUSE, Fedora, among others). Afterwards, ext3 was the default choice.
