Very interesting....thats right....soul and spirit are separate. I cant say I agree that animals cant learn, mourn, think...and some other things ..because I think they can. But, thanks for your insight....I enjoy reading stuff like this.
uh oh let me clear something up. I never said that they couldn’t learn or don’t have some cognitive ability. They obviously do because they have a brain; however, those abilities are limited to their instinctual needs and as far as mourning goes, animals do experience a sense of loss; however, I would not consider it mourning because once the animals instincts kick in then that dead member basically ceases to exist whereas with us we carry memories of lost ones and with those memories the sense of loss and longing can reoccur in other words we miss them. Animals don’t experience this. This is where our having a spirit comes into play.
No I’m not. On all counts.
It appears you like to call names when confronted with a truth you don’t like and may disrupt your view of your little world.
shocked my high school Sunday School class ( just the girls ) the other day by telling them that animals ( their pets ) have no souls and we men have dominion over them to do as we see fit.
They were not happy to hear that Fluffy wont be resurrected.
You’re certainly one of those folks that attend church 8 days a week and can quote every line of the Bible. Kudos.
You’re also a creep.
was that really necessary? Besides he(she?) wasn’t wrong in what he(she?) told the members of the sunday school class regardless if you disagree or not.
I’ve got a preacher that lives across the street. I’ve stopped talking to him because he is incapable of respecting anyone’s views that differ from those of his church.
I would like to point out that the video (which was the point of this thread) was pretty innocuous.
Sweet, pleasant, just a nice ‘aaaahhhhh’ in the middle of a stressful day.
And then you have the creeps who come in to announce that animals are going to hell or folks who like animals must like them more than people or in general.
Acting like jerks to make themselves appear important and ‘good’ and they can go home thinking of how they ‘attempted’ to open they eyes of sinners.
Yeah, when they clearly don’t care one iota for anyone but themeselves.
So yeah, it was called for.
I spent my entire life entrenched in it in one shape or form. The real true good ones, I totally respect. But the others....I’m their worst enemy. I can spot a fake a mile off and I know more about their thoughts than makes them comfortable.

Just exactly where did he state that animals are going to hell? I must’ve have missed that. He(she?) simply stated that they aren’t going to heaven due to them not having souls. Bedsides the heaven and hell issue can only be attributed to beings who can sin and animals don’t sin they’re just affected by it. So again I must ask was it necessary to resort to name calling simply because this individual stated an occurance at his/her church that relates somewhat to this video.
Because this was a goofy, funny, unserious thread! The whole point was a cute video! Geez louise... like is there no place anyone can go just to breath?
So yeah, interrupt folks having a dandelion break and expect to have people not think you’re their to be a friend. One post would have passed as the usual smug ‘one note Wanda’ trying make their point. But after umpteen posts, it’s beyond annoying.
Disappointed, I expected someone to get et........
besides it’s this kind of stuff depicted in this video that gets stupid people eaten alive.
“oh look at the cutesie wootsie teddy beaARRGH!” (horrid screams of terror amid the sound of growling, ripping, chewing and roaring)
Can you point us to a verse that actually says that animals have no souls?
WTF has that got to do with anything?
And some of us actually work with animals, some with teeth and claws, and are smart enough to know a video from reality.
Again, do you freak out at Disney and Donald Duck too?
Are you speaking as the Belly-Dancing najida?
No as the ‘I have too many critters, come save me from the herds of dust bunnies’ Najida.
only beings in the bible referred to as souls or even receiving such like (spirit/soul) are mankind. In the Genesis account God spoke to the ground and the animals came into existence. When He created man He took a different approach, He formed man’s body out of the dirt(dust)[man’s physical self], He breathed into man’s nostrils the breath of life[man’s spirit] and man became a living soul {his soul came into existence aka being aware of his existence, GOD’s, and all around him with the ability to relate/interact with such} See Genesis ch. 1 &2.
c’mon najida it was a joke. Lighten up. I see things like this video and I always think about those stories I hear of people going into zoos, the forest, or jungles and wanting to pet the cute fuzzy aminals (deliberate) only to find that they’ve just made this animal’s day. So I wonder what were they thinking? Cute fuzzy aminals playing in the fluffy daisies...
Which is fine ... but that is not the same as actually saying that animals have no soul. The Bible was written for and to humanity. That it's essentially silent on other creatures is not a compelling argument.
Which is to say, we can guess that animals do (or don't) have souls, but the Bible is merely silent on the topic -- it has no clear statement either way.
We can perhaps infer, however, based on what we can observe. "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." (Rom. 1:19-20).
And what do we see in animals? We see varying levels reasoning ability, certainly, other familiar emotions .... things that one might plausibly attribute to a "soul." Consider dogs: they show love and attachment, and can clearly feel guilt, revenge, dislike, jealousy, and so on.
Does that prove they have souls? No ... but it suggests they may.
please read post #62 for my synopsis.
... a being who can think, reason, learn, interact, choose, not choose, understand that life has purpose, deny that it has purpose, etc. These are things animals can not and do not do. Animals can discern that something is wrong and that death is to be avoided, but if youve ever seen animal examining another dead animal that is lets say its relative, the animals reaction is that of confusion(not mourning as some think) after which the animal either moves on or eats it.
That's clearly false. For example, dogs can and do have friends; and they miss them when they're not in their accustomed place. Dogs will mourn the absence of their humans, and will often seem to understand when they are dead. They certainly love, reason, and more. So by your standard, they have "spirit" as well as soul.
But of course, they're not humans ... and we therefore should not expect them to act like humans.
