You must be one of those people who think of golf as flog, the word 'golf' backwards.

Some people are crazy about it.

Wonderful, Mama Bear. It looks like the momma scrub jay is smiling:) They are wonderful parents, I agree. It is sweet to see them co-parenting the young. Wonder how many babies there are now, hmmmm.....?

(I said ‘wonder’ 3 times...:)

Is it a redtail? I figured it might be a red tailed hawk.........the red tail was sort of a give-a-way. LOL. But I know nothing about hawks, except they are birds of prey.

Yes, ma'am, red-tailed hawk. They are in the raptor family; the raptors are all birds of prey. I found a cute little site re raptors:

Explore Birds of Prey

The red-tailed hawk is in the class known as buteos. I assumed yours is a redtail without looking too closely, because that is what we have around here and it looks like your pics!!

(I said ‘wonder’ 3 times...:)

And I bet there are 3 'wonder'ful babies by now. Although, I haven't seen any signs of them today.

Did you see my post a few days ago about the sweet song that the jays sometimes sing very softly, like they are singing to themselves? Well, I was just out there watching mama bird on the nest and I could very faintly hear her singing a soft little "whisper song". Like a lullaby to her babies.

Earlier today I was out in the yard, standing about six to seven feet from the nest watching mama and she was watching me, then I noticed that her eyes were closing up. Poor thing, she is exhausted from tending her nest (and the feeding/tending vigil has only just begun! LOL). But the amazing thing is, she is so comfortable with me that she started to drift off to sleep for a little nap while I was out there. Of course, any little movement or noise and she was wide awake again.

I hope you all aren't getting bored with the constant jay family updates. Just tell me, and I will shut up about them. LOL

My yorkie’s grandson was swooped upon by a red-tail hawk. The human daddy threw rocks at it, and it dropped the little thing. They didn’t find the talon holes until the next day. He lived. The hawk didn’t.

Hi, (((dear Dolly))), I think maybe you meant Chipotle? You had something with chipotle flavoring, I know you like the salsas and the hot stuff:) I will keep you and Mom in prayer....

My mother adored FDR, always remembered the day he died. My best friend in high school was named for Eleanor Roosevelt. It’s nice to hear about the medals awarded to your husband, (((Yorkie))), makes me tear up a little bit. Hugs.

Oh, no!!! I can't imagine seeing a little puppy grabbed by a hawk! It is amazing that he survived!

It is a rare sight to have hawks overhead here. They are much more common over the foothills, that's why I noticed those that were flying around yesterday. They are beautiful as they soar on the wind currents, and, as far as grabbing small animals, I know that's what they are programmed to do. It's all a matter of survival, still, it would be horrifying to see one's little pet snatched up by a hawk!

That’s a great website, dita. I am bookmarking it. Whenever I see a new specie of bird that I haven’t seen before, I try to learn as much as I can about it. This is the first time I have ever seen a red-tailed hawk. Sure was beautiful watching them soar effortlessly on the wind currents.

Yes, I remember about the scrubjay ‘whisper song.’ How special is that?!:) I have only heard their raucous calls. It’s funny how they were in the backyard when I lived 3 blocks from the beach, but now I am 5 miles inland, do not see them at all.

???

Thank you, Lori.

I had a tough time finding a poem for this graphic. I don't remember having to read any Chaucer when I was in school. Maybe I have forgotten it ..... no I don't have Alzheimer's, tho I do tend to forget. ;)
