I can always count on FR’s token prick to make an appearance on one of these threads. I guess you’re it.
*blink, blink* :O
ROTFLMAO!
You must be married! :D
Sure, but do NOT stand on the toilet while using it.
As everyone knows, Confucius said "Man who stand on toilet is high on pot."
Indubitably.
Unfortunately there IS enough heat on the bottom that it warped the laminate on the top of the table.
It only felt like a prick because of some very thin skin ...
Easily downloadable from Dell. Look on the back to see the model number....C640 or D600 or something like that. Then Google that or search Dell.com for the paperwork. You can also search on the Dell Service Tag number on Dell.com to get all kinds of info on your new baby.
Yeah, like I said.........
It's OK with me.
I heard the bottom gets hot?
If it gets too hot for your taste, purchase hot pants.
Does it get so hot that it can discolor my furniture?
No, the furniture will be fine unless it's made of chocolate.
After seeing over a half dozen vanities posted by you over the last two months, all with the subject of you not understanding some reasonably simple computer or software question, it is hard to understand why someone wouldn't come to the conclusion that "you're not ready yet."
While FR is a treasure trove of wonderful, helpful knowledge on a far ranging field of subjects, with truly helpful, selfless posters on it, it is primarily a conservative website for discussion of news items and the like. Posting of "vanities" asking others to instruct you on subjects you don't have the personal initiative to search out on appropriate forums elsewhere could be seen by some to be an abuse of the stated purpose of this forum.
When someone quite simply expresses their opinion that you "should pack it up and send it back to Dell ... you're not ready yet", based upon your past history of simplistic questions that any fifth grader could find answers to on appropriate websites on the internet with a few minutes of effort, and you call them a "token prick", I think that most here can see who the actual "prick" is. If you can't, you only need a mirror for help.
Nice way to act. Nice attitude to repay those who would selflessly try to help you with your simplistic questions/vanities. I'm with tx_eggman. Not only are you not ready for your Dell, you surely don't seem ready for this forum. Sorry. If that opinion makes me a prick, I'll happily live with that, since a prick is obviously ahead of an asshole.
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge! Know what I mean? < eyebrow waggle >
[crickets]
I’ve had a Dell Inspiron for almost three years now (as my primary machine). It’s the best machine I’ve ever owned.
I use it all the time on my lap. It does get warm, and after an hour or so (plugged in or not) I have to get out from under it, but it runs fine. There are a couple of vents on the bottom of the machine— off to the left side. I usually position it on my lap such that those vents are unencumbered.
Other than the times when it’s in transit, my laptop (like the rest of my machines) has rarely been off. Laptops will run just fine for extended periods of time.
The bottom of my laptop has never gotten hot enough to discolor furniture, clothing, or anything else.
Your mileage may vary, but I think you’ll be fine.
See, he’s not a techno-illiterate. He even has his own website!
Bait and tackle lol
If you don't like my questions, then pass on by.
You're right, though. Most of the posters on FR are well mannered and helpful. Then there are those like you.
When I'm not using it for business, I'll have it connected to my tv. Can I just leave it plugged in with no adverse effect, or am I supposed to unplug it when not in use.
You can leave it plugged in, although lightning hits would be a problem. I have had one laptop fried when the power went off and on many times in rapid succession. A squirrel had gotten fried on the transformer, and my video controller bit the dust. I replaced the laptop.
(Seems like Dell would ship some kind of owner's manual with it, doesn't it?) I've never seen Dell ship a box without a manual.
The "manual" they shipped outlined the limits of their liability. In about four languages.
I was able to download the users manual once I got the laptop's "encryption" key.
Thanx for the help, though.
I had the same problem with two computers in my house. My wifey’s laptop would shut off. I took the bottom off to access the fan and there and a 40 foot tall dust bunny in the fan. After a dustbunnectomy, and a general blowing out the fan area, it ran 30-ish degrees cooler.
On my laptop, I had to pull the fan off the CPU chip, clean it by ever-so-gently scraping off the old dried up thermal paste, re-thermalpaste it, and reassemble. I took 20 degrees C off my standby temperature, and 25-30 off max operating temperature.
Blowing canned air from the outside would have solved neither of my problems. Both required a screwdriver.
