I believe that the song was so bad that the kids got to pick from a whole list of songs...MJ says: The Davids picked their own coronation song from the 10 most popular songs in the list of 20 that were available for online voting, per Nigel. How’s that for a twist? We don’t know which song either contestant has chosen yet.

More tidbits from MJ:

The “biggest star” in the world will be there, says Nigel. Robert Downey Jr. perhaps? He’ll be there according to the FOX report. Nigel is probably high enough to think Robert Downey Jr. is a big star.

Nigel told Ryan this morning that the Top 5 will sing duets with “somebody.” FOX news is reporting that “each of the Idols” will be singing with one of the celebrity mentors who appeared during the season. There were four mentors: Mariah Carey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Andrew Lloyd Webber. If she’s talking about the Top 5 duets, who would be the 5th mentor? Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr? McCartney would fit the “biggest star in the world” description. But, neither Beatle were actually mentors. Or, maybe the FOX reporter is talking about something else entirely?

“Biggest star in the world”....hmmmm....

Well, for the last few years there have been rumors of Whitney Houston making an appearance at the finally, because she’s a big fav of Clive. I hope it’s not Michael Jackson. Paul McCartney is a great guess. I really hope it’s not Miley Cyrus. I read someplace that the Jonas Bros. are supposed to be on.

It is very confusing because the top SAT scores have changed over the years. I heard the interview where Jason said he made 1340. In fact I listened twice. I can’t confirm the 1400, but read that that was the score when he took them. I will not be dogmatic about that because I can’t locate where I read that. I did hear an interview with him on Fox and Faith where he stated he was a Christian and his faith plays a huge part in his life.

I was thinking he might mean Bono. He probably thinks U2 is the biggest star in the world because of his charities. If Cook is singing a U2 song, maybe Bono will be there.

The New SAT has 2400 as a top score, whereas 1600 was the top SAT I score through January 2005. The 800 "new" points are really the addition of a one-hour "Writing" test (the former SAT II Writing) onto the New SAT.

http://www.ivybound.net/about-new-SAT.html

So it was probably 1600 when Jason took them. (I will go with that even tho I read it was 1400, I can't find any documentation for that.)

Top score for the SAT has been 2400 many years.

How old is Castro and when did he graduate?

Nevermind, I found it.

Castro graduated in 2005. The SAT’s are given to seniors in the spring. The New SAT’s went into effect in March of 2005. It is most likely that he took the New SAT in 2005 and the highest possible points for the New SAT is 2400 points.

If Castro graduated in 2005, he would’ve taken the SAT’s way before Spring of that year when the SAT test changed.

It’s offered to Juniors beginning in the Spring so the scores can be forwarded for their college apps. IIRC, students could take SAT’s up to 3 times if they wish to improve their scores.

His score of 1340 out of 1600 would be considered outstanding to most colleges, perhaps with the exception of the Ivy Leagues.

NO IT IS NOT! My son is a junior and has never taken the SAT. Juniors are given the ACT. When I asked my son about the SAT he told me ONLY Seniors are given the SAT and that is done in the spring of their senior year.

Irrelevent, since he probably scorred 1340 out of 2400. It is the ACT scores that are sent on to the colleges. I know because we have been inundated with college material. Since my son's ACT scores came in. He scored 33 out of 36. He's in the top 1% and is being courted by the 'Ivy League'.

As an addendum, the ACT is first given to the students as sophmores as a ‘preliminary’ ACT, to prepare them for their ACT exam as juniors and yes, they can indeed retake them if they desire

The rules have evidently changed since the late 90’s when our son went to Stanford. By Spring of Senior year the college testing was (thankfully) behind them as they awaited news of college acceptance.

Good luck with your boy.

Thanks.

I went looking for more info and most of it is confusing. Some sites say they offer 7 monthy testing dates. I have to say that our schools have never offered the SAT test 7 times a year. I'm thinking that the school offers 1 and that if a student wants to retest they can, but I would imagine they have to make those retesting arrangements on their own.

I think a lot of changes like the frequency might be for monetary changes. Why double up these tests which cost money for the states?

From what I have been reading, most colleges don't even use the SAT anymore.

My nephew just graduated college and said it went mostly by ACT scores and GPA.

I would imagine each state may handle things differently, anyway.

My son wants to go into bio-medical engineering.

I'm thinking Bono, too.

Spoilers alert:

Coronation songs (rumored):

David A.: Here I Am

David C.: No Turning Back

Personal choices:

David A. will do “Imagine”

David C. will perform U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”

For Wednesday, according to MJ:

David C. and Mariah Carey will duet on “Always Be my Baby”

David A. and Neil Diamond will duet on “America” (this is still a rumor)

Interesting story. The flaming blue skull reading aloud is a nice touch.
