Does that mean that we the viewers were shown more commercials this year than last?

Yes, plus strategic placement of products where they can be seen and/or talked about on screen during the show.

I made a mistake about Jason’s SAT’s. He made 1340 out of 1400 when he took them. Juliet on Fox in the morning mentioned that to Jason. She actually said to him that he made 1360 and he corrected her and said he made 1340.

I’ve never been but my daughter has been to several and she had a great time. She is not a teeny bopper either.

Thought SATs top score was 1600?

Actually, I'm getting a few different numbers for some, also according to USA today, as of Jan. 2008.

Once again, here's a link to the most recent numbers from Nielsen SoundScan. These numbers are more recent than the earlier articles you both referenced.

Nielsen SoundScan describes itself as an "information system that tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. Sales data from point-of-sale cash registers is collected weekly from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant and non-traditional (on-line stores, venues, etc.) outlets. Weekly data is compiled and made available every Wednesday. Nielsen SoundScan is the sales source for the Billboard music charts."

Sales figures quoted in news articles may or may not be the latest. They may or may not combine sales for singles and albums. They may or may not include digital downloads and international sales. Nielsen SoundScan numbers are considered throughout the industry to be definitive.

BTW, I also thought that Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin and Elliott Yamin would have shown up in the top 10 AI alumni, but they don't -- at least not yet. Sales figures are not static. They change daily, and with each new single and album release. So each new dataset should be viewed only as a snapshot, not a definitive statement of who has and has not had (or will or will not have) a successful career post-AI.

I think the second album is the real guage since the first often isn’t what the artist wants to do, but is a compilation of what others want them to do. jmo

Another BTW: Elliott Yamin and Josh Gracin did not get AI contracts. They went out and did it the old fashioned way, by signing with smaller labels, making music they believed in, and then went out and marketed through hard work. They didn't have the benefit of access to the huge marketing departments of the Sony-BMG stable of labels. For this reason, I consider them exceptionally successful even if their current sales totals don't put them among the biggest selling AI alumni (yet). I was a supporter of both Elliott and Josh during their time on the show, and in the years sonce. In some respects, I'm more proud of them than all the others. They may or may not ever be superstars, but they've carved out nice careers for themselves.

I agree, especially in the case of former AI contestants who are signed by a unit of the Sony-BMG behemoth. For example, if Taylor is ever going to be successful, this second, and independent, album is his best chance. He needs to pick really good music, have great production values on the record, and market it intelligently. In other words, he should follow the same formula that both Elliott and Josh followed.

It is ~
Combined scores of math and english with a possibility of 800 for each.

Jason's score of 1340 is still VERY GOOD!!!

So what is a good SAT score? The exam consists of three parts: Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. The scores from each section can range from 200 to 800, so the best possible total score is 2400. The average score for each section is roughly 500, so the AVERAGE total score is about 1500.

1340 would be BELOW AVERAGE.

Underwood most popular "Idol," Castro overrated

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Country singer Carrie Underwood is the all-time most popular "American Idol" winner, and dreadlocked Jason Castro was voted the most overrated contestant this season, according to a poll released on Monday by AOL Television.

Archuleta's rendering of John Lennon's "Imagine" in February was rated best of the season by 35 percent of those taking part, with Cook's rock version of the Michael Jackson hit "Billie Jean" in March also getting 35 percent.

The AOL Television poll, conducted May 9-16, received more than 1.3 million votes.

Underwood, the 2005 "American Idol" winner who went on to win Grammy, American Music, Billboard and Country Music Association awards, was voted the most popular "Idol" by 54 percent of those taking part.

Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season in 2002, was second with 26 percent of votes.

Castro, the mellow guitar-playing Texan who made it to the final four round of contestants this year, topped the list of most overrated singers of the 2008 season with 28 percent of votes. Some 35 percent rated his performance of the Bob Dylan classic "Mr. Tambourine Man," in which Castro flubbed the lyrics, the worst of the year.

I guess the song writing contest isn’t all that, either.

All told, the program had 4,184 product placements, up 4% vs. the same period in 2007.

And Idol really pimped movies this year. They had an opening segment one night tied into that crappy "Jumper" movie. And they seemed to have a whole show dedicated to Jim Carrey and his Dr. Seuss movie.

Spoiler Update: David Cook will sing a new song, U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”

Ooooh...that could be reeeeaally good. I wonder if they are going to have him backed by a gospel choir like in the Rattle and Hum version? That would be cool.

I don’t know for sure, but I’m going to guess it’s got something to do with reaching your dreams and is really cheesy.

I had blocked that out. Now I have that image of Jim Carrey and the stupid elephant feet in my head. Every time I see him I think of how he dates Jenny McCarthy and how they must be the most annoying couple on the face of the earth.

Going to be interesting. That song hits the upper end of Bono's range which is far higher than Cook's...and the Rattle and Hum version is simply fantastic. Trivia question: what is the name of the choir?
