David Cook
David's video is from an appearance on a local news show. While he's being interviewed by the anchors, he gets a text message from Simon. His song choice is Roberta Flack's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"
Simon: One of the great songs of all time. And unlike Randy, I want to hear something different.
David sings alone on stage, no instruments.
It's surprisingly good! Beautiful. He gets a standing-o before the song is even over.
Randy: I've been a David Cook fan since day 1. Loved the high note at the end. But I wish Simon had picked a different song. You are a rocker. I want you to rock! (What an idiotic comment. The crowd abandons Randy on that one--rightfully so.)
Paula: One of my favorite songs. Now you are my second favorite person that's performed it.
Simon: This may sound biased, but I thought it one of your best performances to date. You take risks. Round One goes to Cook & Cowell.

The Kingston Trio sang that song in 1964. It was written by Pete Seeger’s brother-in-law.

I could have listened to that for hours! Actually, it’s the first time I ever heard it sung by a male. AWESOME!
To: Fawn
It was Fantastic.....he has you mezmerized when he sings..... I actually teared up ehile he sang that. I liked his version better than Flack's. While hers is a classic, I always felt it was just a tad too slow.
