When did this whole gigantic sweet 16 party junk start? My coworker was going to take her daughter and one or two of her friends on a trip to NYC for her sweet 16. Her daughter said no, because if she couldn’t have the big party with all the frills she didn’t want anything. My coworker said, “Good! Less I have to spend!” LOL

Back when I was a kid (and seriously, it wasn’t all that long ago, was it? Let’s see, 20th high school reunion letter. Yep, have to go kill myself later.)

Anyway, when I was a kid, we would get a “party” with 6 to 10 other kids, 4 or 5 large pizzas, 2 or 3 movies a cake and the parents out of the house until midnight.

Jonny, I really don't get why the judges are so over the top for Archuletta. I absolutely cannot see him doing pop, pop/rock, urban/r&b, Broadway, or even Latin music. I just don't know where he fits. As we've all observed over the years you've kindly done this thread, there's more to talent than just a nice singing voice.

But I totally agree. I don’t even remember what I did for my 16th birthday. I’m sure I got together with my friends and we all hung out and probably watched movies and ate too much. There was no formal wear involved.
