They no doubt have worms and they probably have never been treated for worms.

That's exactly what my daughter told me.

You need to do this ASAP if you are going to have them around your Grandkids

Are you talking about worms or heart worms or both? I can get hubby to pick up the kind that goes in their food.

You have beautiful dogs, btw.

Thanks, but those weren't my dogs. I just found some puppy photos of each breed for you to use as comparisons to the two pups you found. You are so kind for taking them in, I thought I'd try to help you as much as possible in return. :)

We have a king sized bed. Plenty of room. (after I bathe them)

both...

you should get “vet strength” wormer for parasites that treats all the parasites (hookworm, tapeworm, etc) and then put them on a monthly heartworm preventive that you get from the vet. (heartworms come from mosquitoes)

They’re Louisiana Chair Hounds.

You had me going there for about 45 seconds. I was about to google Louisiana Chair Hound. You got me. :)

They’re napping under a tree. The kids have worn them out.

So many unwanted dogs out there

I can't count the number of stray dogs and cats that find us. We fed them for a few days, give them some loving, then call the pound. I'm talking hundreds in the more than twelve years we've live here. No way can we afford to take care of that many and I wouldn't even try.

But I trust they are in good hands now.

Your trust would be well placed.

google ... canine worming

You will have to do it at least twice over 10 days or so (or the vet will do it for you) It is best to use Vet strength wormer that handles ALL the parasite types. You may be able to get it over the counter from a farm/feed store.

Just keep the kids away from any poop they leave behind and clean up all the poop in your yard until you know they are 100% worm free. Otherwise they will continue to get worms over and over again as they can pick them up from fresh poo that is left in the yard, the kids can pick them up also from dog licks (dog licks butt and passes parasite eggs on to kids). Your grandkids should wash their hands and face (puppy kisses) after handling the cute pups until you know they are parasite free.

My guess is that they have worms (95% sure) and this would be at top of my list of things to do until you find out if they belong to someone else who may want them back. Wait a week before you get them shots as I would hate to see you spend all that money on shots only to have someone come in and claim them.

Here's a pic of my Goldie when he was a pup for comparison

It's now three years later, a ton of dog food and he tips the scales over 100.

Have them spayed or neutered as appropriate along with shots.

That's the one thing hubby told me I had to agree on doing, getting them fixed when it was time. They'll get their shots.

BTW, I showed my wife (whose family owned several Hungarian Kuvasz, a relative of the Great Pyrenees, growing up) this picture, and she simply said, “judging by those paws...I’m guessing they’re part Clydesdale.”

They are. They are very happy pups. I don’t think they were abused at all, I think they were very loved.

Thanks ... he is a goofy yet smart, warm and welcome addition to the family. Grateful strays make some of the best furry children you could ever hope for.
