Why does Mira, a Red Giant star, a member of a binary system, have a 13 light year long tail? What keeps it coherent??? PING!

Just preliminarily from the photograph, there appears to be a bow-shock ahead of the tail. If we could we see the wider field that might tell us something.

Very interesting in any case though. Thanks for posting.
