Low oxygen content of the blood can cause blue lips. This can be due to low counts or due to problems with oxygenation of the blood. It would be interesting to know what your blood oxygen saturation is during the episodes. Do they last for very long? If so then your brother may have time to come over to your house to check with a saturation monitor (many EMTs have this equipment). If it is low then your doctor would have to look for sources of low oxygen such as blood clots, sickle cell disease or other hemoglobin abnormalities. A hematologist could check for these various disorders.

I did see this nytimes article where his favorite drink is “black forest berry tea”, could this be the culprit for the blue lips???
He knows that “the boss,” as he calls Mr. Obama, likes MET-Rx chocolate roasted-peanut protein bars and bottles of a hard-to-find organic brew — Black Forest Berry Honest Tea. He keeps a supply of both on hand.

Sickle Cell trait — carrying one sickle cell gene. He could be susceptible to hypoxia and dehydration causing mental confusion. Uh, Uhhhh, Duh! He better not be making command decisions in Air Force One at 35,000 feet.
One characteristic which cannot be attributed to his black Kenyan “father” or his white American “mother” is the color of his lips. BHO carries a trait unique to those born in southeast Asia, certain parts of the Middle East and northern Africa and is only visible in color photos and videos. Obama’s lips have a purple hue common to those born in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and in some Arab countries. It is a feature not found in black Africans, nor in African-Americans, yet BHO has it (Recall that the “Obama” name is also of Indonesian origin).
Still wondering about this. His lips seem much bluer lately.
Maybe he is up to two packs a day?
