These beds seem terribly expensive, and all I know is what I've seen on the internet and heard on the radio. But I want to hear from owners who've had experience.
We have a dual zone queen size and love it, an awesome product. Had it for 6 years. Don’t forget to get the heated matress pad if you live where it’s cold.

I often thought about how you stay warm on air. The air will cool to room temp and heating that kind of volume is almost impossible using your body. Now you have to buy a heating pad, too?
But that doesn't keep blankets and bedding from squishing your toes and twisting your feet sideways. I've had a toe-tent of my bed for 2 years, and I think it's the greatest damn gadget in the world.
No, the bed is just fine as far as warmth due to the thick mattress cover that comes with it. I like the heated matress pad when it’s below zero outside and we have the thermostat set at 65 during the night, makes it warm and cozy.
The bed is just great, worth the price.
We have a sleep number in our house and one in our RV. We like them. I especially like the twin mattresses as it keeps down the motion when hubby rolls over and I think I sleep better because of it. We haven’t had sinking in the middle problems, although I’ve heard of them.
sleepnumber usually allows a 30 day trial offer, although your special discount model might have something different....I’d think sleepnumber would honor it as brand new though.
BTW, when we did contact sleepnumber once on a mild issue, we found them very helpful and supportive.
good luck
I agree personal need/choice.
I bought a new hard as I could find pillow top serta too.
It was not supportive enough for my back pain needs.
So for that I have different size blocks of wood and small pillows UNDER the mattress for support in the areas that need it.
I am oppisite of the Princess and the Pea...but my lower lumbar is happy.
I have Tempurpedic and enjoy it.
But I’d prefer a water bed. However, there’s some research (that I don’t have a link to) which suggests that such electrical things are a hazard health-wise.
It’s evidently even hazardous to have a clock radio or any other electrical thing within 3 feet of one’s head.
I was struck by a description of Burt Rutan’s new home (however many years ago!) and master bedroom. IIRC, he evidently has a big screen TV viewable only by a mirror setup wherein the TV itself is shielded from emitting any electrical signals toward the bed.
The short of it is, I’d check such things out via DOGPILE.COM searches before sleeping nightly on an electric mattress pad. I still have radio by my head but usually a small battery model. Not sure how much better that is.
We have one, with no serious complaints. I do find that both chambers tend to lose pressure over time, so once a week that has to be fixed. But for sleeping—there is no bed that’s nearly as good. I like the fact that the number can be changed—sometimes I’m a 35, sometimes a 55. So easy to change, and I couldn’t do that with a regular mattress.
And speaking of regular mattresses—just 6 months before we bought the Sleep Number, we bought a high-end name brand for almost the same price. THAT mattress was awful—started out fine, but within one month, dents appeared, and you can’t turn these turkeys over as we used to do with the old style mattresses. We did get a refund (not full, just partial), but we’ll NEVER buy a standard mattress again, until and unless they make them so that they can be turned.
So yes, we really like the Sleep Number. Sure beats everything else.
The Tempur-pedic mattress is a big block of foam - it doesn't have springs. I like mine, just don't buy the cheaper knock-off from Serta. It's harder and less effective.
Thanks for posting this. We’re considering a “Sleep Number” bed as well.
My wife was pregnant with number 8 a few years ago and I thought I would get one for her to assist her sleep. I searched on the net and found American National Manufacturing on a search. I bought a bed from them for about a 1/3 the price of the sleep number. They provide a knock-off equivalent bed. Have had no problems with the bed and we love it. Good luck.
Thanks. I'll look them over.
I am a former employee and long time Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed owner.
While I have been extremely satisfied with my bed for over 3 years and have never experienced any issues that I've seen described on this website, I always knew and also told the customer that no product has 100% customer satisfaction. An air-bed is right for some people and not for others. For me it was just what I needed to help my chronic back pain that I had lived with for over 10 years.
Some people will not notice a significant improvement from this bed, but many of those people had issues that no bed would have fully resolved. Select Comfort is constantly striving to improve their products. Additionally, several universities have conducted independent studies and have concluded that a majority of the people who slept on the bed reported better sleep and reduced back pain.
For that reason, Select Comfort offers the 30 night in home trial.
I certainly do not wish to defend the particular sales person who sold the bed to you, I know for a fact that there are employees who do not correctly word the explanation of the in home trial. I know myself have accidentally said free trial, just because it flows easily.
Does this make it right? No.
That is a risk you run into with any consumer product. Sometimes a product is misrepresented on purpose, but the majority of the time it is unintentional.
I defy anyone to claim that they have not made any error or accidentally provided inaccurate information. Does this excuse it? No.
But no matter what the sales person tells you, printed on the bottom of the receipt is a careful explanation of the return policy. Even if the salesperson does not 100% spell it out, the receipt does. And for those who claim 'I did not see it on the receipt' or 'the salesperson did not show it to me'...ever since approximately Jan 2003, underneath the return and exchange policy info has been a signature line that the customer signs signifying that he is aware of the policies. This is to protect both sides.
Plus, even before that signature line was added, the policy was always on the receipt and it is up to the individual to be a responsible consumer and read the fine print. There are bad salespeople in every company but they are certainly not commonplace to this one.
We’ve had ours since ‘96. We’ll never own anything different. Our kids & grandkids are always trying to get us to give it to them and buy a new one. They can eat dirt.
We’ve stayed in hotels and nearly been crippled by their lousy mattresses so we put one in our motorhome too.
I sleep on the floor, tell me about these things called mattresses.
I’ve had one for five years love it.
