Obama's silly imitation seal may have been relegated to the trash heap of dumb ideas but it hasn't been forgotten.

.

From the folks at Powerline...

"Just when my creative juices were beginning to work on the appropriate Latin mottos for Barack Obama's very own presidential seal, the Obama campaign gave up the whole idea. I originally proposed "Obamanum Credimus" ("We believe in Obama"). Deliberating a bit more on the subject, I thought "In Obamano Speramus" ("In Obama we trust") would also do nicely.

Before the campaign settled on "Vero Possumus" ("Yes we can") as the motto for the seal, we understand that it considered and rejected "Estne volumen in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre?" ("Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just happy to see me?").

Unfortunately, the media reaction to the presidential seal was more along the lines of "Fac me cocleario vomere!" ("Gag me with a spoon!"). Rather than face the ridicule, Obama stood down and assigned the staffers who dreamed up this project to meditate on the proposition "Si hoc signum legere potes, operis boni in rebus Latinis alacribus et fructuosis potiri potes!" ("If you can read this sign, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!").

Despite the inherent humor of the episode, it seems to me extraordinarily revealing of Senator Obama. The Latin motto that springs to mind -- to my mind anyway -- is the familiar maxim "Caveat emptor" ("Let the buyer beware").

"Healing up nicely."

What happened? I've missed lots of posts because, admittedly, I just don't have the stomach to digest all the posts about our pathetic non-choices for the upcomning election. I'm going to need lots of Xanax and Pepto-Bismol...not to mention a day or two off...just to survive and recover from the 5 minute trip to the polls.

"Well, the only thing I can say about McCain, is the he hasn't yet convinced me to vote for him. I agree with someone else who said, only Obama can convince me to do that....... "

That person was right. I'm afraid you'll miss the election altogether if you're waiting for McCain or his politics to convince you. The very idea of the Obamas in the White House is sufficient motivation for me to vote for McCain.

How many other Presidential wannabees made their own seal? Did he really do that? That just seems so arrogant to me....but then we ARE talking about O-bomb-a.

"... Did he really do that?...

Yes, indeed. It is arrogant and presumptive and manipulative. But apparently, its a "one and done" thing. He rolled it out last Friday in Chicago for a meeting with democrat governors in a tiny room that was lined with flags. It was almost universally mocked and so now his campaign has tried to say it was made up just for that one event. pffffft. They spent a lot of time putting that ridiculous thing together and would still be using it if it had not generated such a giant gasp from all quarters. .

IMHO, all it really amounted to was an amateurish attempt by a not ready for primetime wannabe to seem "presidential", to soften voter impressions of him and get them accustomed to seeing him standing behind an official, "presidential looking" seal.

FOFLOL. For days the MSM, especially, MSNBC, has been touting the Newsweek poll that had Obama up 15% points over McCain. Today a new Gallup poll was released that shows them even so now the MSM is saying that “the polls have been all over the place”....and that we shouldn’t pay any attention to them. Is that predictable or what?

So the Presidential seal can be changed on a whim? That’s like messing with the American flag!

We've all been posting here a long time

There hasn't been such a strange political year since 1992, and this one is stranger.

Well, not in the real world but then how many Libs do you know who live in the same orbit as the rest of us?

It was a lame attempt that was roundly and soundly mocked as it should have been.

Its because we can all remember the strangeness and apathy that existed in some corners in ‘92 that we must not allow our indifference at McCain’s candidacy to settle in. The consequences would be too dire.
