One of the two survivors of the San Francisco Zoo tiger attack that left a 17-year-old fatally mauled told the victim's father that the three had yelled and waved at the animal while standing atop the railing of the tiger's enclosure, police said in court documents filed Thursday.
Paul Dhaliwal, 19, denied throwing anything into the enclosure or otherwise antagonizing the animal, according to an account contained in police investigators' request for a search warrant in connection with the Christmas Day attack that killed Carlos Sousa Jr. of San Jose.
Police armed with the warrant and seeking evidence that the men had taunted the tiger searched the 2002 BMW belonging to Dhaliwal's 23-year-old brother, Kulbir, on Wednesday. They also reviewed the brothers' cell phones for any photos they might have taken before the tiger attacked.
Police said they had recovered messages and images, but apparently nothing incriminating in connection with the tiger attack. Investigators seized a small amount of marijuana as well as a partially filled bottle of Grey Goose vodka from the car, according to the inventory that police submitted from the search.
They also found a kit commonly used to defeat drug testing, which included a vial of unisex synthetic urine, police said. Paul Dhaliwal was on probation stemming from a drunken driving incident and crash that occurred before the attack.

There isn’t a fence rail - it is chain link and has little pointy pieces of wire.
It does seem odd that people around here are so quick to believe anything bad about the victims, especially when nearly everything reported about them has been untrue.
(dangling foot, unlocking the cage, putting a board down to aid tiger’s escape, putting a picnic table into the moat, their shoe in the moat, slingshots, not cooperating with police).
Apparently you missed my point completely. Good luck in your encounters with wildlife in the completely safe world you live in.
Yep. And, now it is recorded in court documents.
I have read (help me out here, somebody), that if it is proven in court that these boys taunted the tiger, they will not be eligible to receive a settlement.
Yes. You’re right of course. Too bad. I do hope the two punks who survived enjoy their brief notoriety and try the same stunt again with more satisfactory results.
Not if I'm on the jury.
They can write "should have" on the kids tombstone. Actions have consequences. Assumptions are a poor basis for actions.
I don't know about the father, but I know the cop would do and say whatever he need to get his bogus search warrant. As I said I don't know what the father said are what the kid said, all that we have is the allegation made by the cop.
This account states that the victims "waved at the animal while standing atop the railing." It does not say they went over the railing.
What account are you referencing?
FTA: "They also found a kit commonly used to defeat drug testing, which included a vial of unisex synthetic urine, police said. Paul Dhaliwal was on probation stemming from a drunken driving incident and crash that occurred before the attack".
These 'boys' were found to have marijuana in their systems, alcohol in their systems, scamming the system regarding drug usage with fake urine, drunk driving conviction...........yup. Just good ol' boys, eh? Well would you want this kind of scum dating YOUR daughter?
Why don't we read anything good about them? Because no one has found anything good to print. Please post links proving that "nearly everything reported about them has been untrue."
All of these reports were untrue. Search for yourself.
I fear we are going to be hearing alot more of these attack between animals and humans around the world. It seems we have a sick passion for animal violence.
Dog Violence in the USA and feeding of live animals in Zoos overseas. Its only a matter before some of these animals bites the hand that feeds them.
Cleaner version than some I have seen but still not for the faint of heart. Listen to the young kids.

And for the record, I have already stated that the victims should have been arrested on drug and alcohol charges.
But my guess is that the city does not want to antagonize the brothers right before a civil trial by arresting them on lesser charges.
OK, we all can see the chain link fence does not exist in post #46. All you have is black metal and some stands that contains information about the animals. So you next fabrication is?
I never saw most of those references, so haven’t used them in forming my opinion. The shoe and the now-debunked slingshot reference were all I heard about - and the non-cooperation by the Dhaliwals is true.
Uh-huh - something so easily thrown out just by having the judge ask the victim’s father. Sure.
You know.
I believe there is a snake in the woodpile.
Do you know what I mean?
No, they’ll still get an award, just less than the dead boy’s family. There will be arguments for aggravating and mitigating factors in negotiating the amount.
It’s going to be a split between the zoo and the victims of some percentage to be determined by the jury, if it gets that far without a private settlement.
They had to have gone over the fence to get to the railing on the wall of the moat.
