Post Script.

Not one of those men was a Marine.

I have lived and played with multitudes of Marines from all over America.

With VERY few exceptions, I was the ONLY female in the group.

They were ALWAYS the EPITOME of chivalry.

Sheriff attends Lauterbach funeral

http://www.jdnews.com/news/lauterbach_54814___article.html/brown_maria.html
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
Accessory after fact may not apply in Laurean case
-excerpt
Stroud, a former prosecutor who is not involved in the Lauterbach case, addressed the question at The Daily News’ request. He said that a charge of accessory after the fact does not apply to someone who was merely withholding information about a crime.
“The better-reasoned cases in North Carolina have said that simply knowing about an act doesn’t make a person guilty of accessory after the fact,” he said. “A person could, however, be charged with obstruction of justice or something along those lines.”
District Attorney Dewey Hudson said that as of Wednesday, Christina Laurean was not being charged with anything. Hudson is the district attorney for the 4th Prosecutorial District, which includes Onslow County.
“It is still very early on in the investigation,” Hudson said. “We have only been on this case for about three weeks, and right now (Christina Laurean) is not being charged.”
From the AP Funeral held for slain, pregnant Ohio Marine
"Family and friends wept and prayed at a funeral Mass this morning, honoring a pregnant Ohio Marine found dead in North Carolina.
The service for Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach drew hundreds to St. Christopher Catholic Church near Dayton. U.S. authorities have said the man suspected of killing her in December, Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, has likely fled to Mexico.
Four uniformed marines wheeled Lauterbach’s coffin down the aisle to the strains of “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory.” A small silver casket bearing Lauterbach’s unborn child, who she had named Gabriel, was placed next to it.
The Lauterbach family sat together in the front row. Lauterbach’s mother, Mary, dabbed her eyes with tissues and her father, Vic, comforted Maria’s young brother, putting his arm on his shoulder.
The full church included uniformed Marines and military veterans. Also in attendance were students from Lauterbach’s former high school — Vandalia-Butler — in purple and gold letter jackets.
During his sermon, the Rev. Francis Keferl paid tribute to Lauterbach, saying she had a strong spirit. “We remember her athleticism and her competitive spirit. We remember that she wanted to serve her country as a Marine.”
“Our sister and brother, Maria and Gabriel, were suddenly violently from taken from us. Lord, come swiftly to their aid,” he prayed. Outside the church, about 200 members of the Patriot Guard, a veterans group who ride to military funerals on their motorcycles, lined the drive and stood at attention as the hearse bearing the casket arrived. A makeshift sign made of plastic foam cups read, “We Miss You, Maria.”".....
That WAS a nice writeup by the AP of the funeral service for Maria and her baby. Although there were only a few flowers/mementos left on the lawn of Maria's last residence, this one was so touching.
The note says, Maria, God must be putting a soccer team together in heaven. Please rest in peace, our prayers are with you.
Battle Hymn of the Republic
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
Was this known information?
http://www.jdnews.com/articles/laurean_54756___article.html/mexico_mexican.html
A law enforcement source in Texas told CNN on Monday that Laurean boarded a bus in North Carolina on Jan. 11 and arrived in Houston the following afternoon. The source also said Laurean bought a bus ticket in Houston to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, probably arriving Jan. 13 in Guadalajara, where a cousin of Laurean's told reporters last week that he spoke to Laurean a week earlier.
Was this known information? Yes. At least they think those were his travel plans. Who knows, he could be in the US.
Yeah, it sounds like they’ve confirmed this, but it could be just the writing/reporting.
On this date in 1981, a crowd of hundreds, including many from the Tri-State, gathered at the Dayton Mall to welcome home Steven Lauterbach.
"As a police officer I find that the media has convicted (Laurean) prior to his appearance in court and has in no way afforded him his right to be considered innocent," Adcock said. I find this comment at your link. Anyone with an agenda could have killed her. We don't even know if he put her in the pit. We do know he had motive. But so did others. However, from what I've seen, I believe there was evidence at the bank that he tried to use her card! he has no alibi! and has disappeared! That right there says authorities did what was necessary to protect the general public. So, apples and oranges on the innocence. Otherwise, no one would ever be charged with a crime.
