I'm trying this on a AMD Phenom 9500 (Quad ) with an ECS A770M-A Motherboard with 4 Gig A-Data ....

Very smooth and responsive browser....

Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose goal is to provide a more complete out-of-the-box experience by including browser plugins, media codecs, support for DVD playback, Java and other components. It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface. Linux Mint is compatible with Ubuntu software repositories.

I have not tried this on any Laptops...but this is a very user friendly distro and has some very nice features. Repository and update features are a real plus it seems to me.

I instaled gOS Rocket 2.0 last night and just got done turning it into a multimedia OS. I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package, lame, faac, faad, updated Pidgin to 2.3.1, updated GIMP to 2.4.2, installed Audacity and Avidemux and QDVDAuthor and Totem Xine (aka Movie Player) and Wicd (wifi manager), installed a bunch of Mac OS X wallpapers, ndiswrapper, and the Thunar file manager, and installed Remastersys and created my custom gOS installation CD (the ISO is 680 MB). The default gOS installation (only 530 MB) is severely lacking in software, but I managed to get a bunch installed, and now I have my own customized CD. I call it “gOS Ultimate Edition”.
