This fell off from underneath the front passenger side of my car (06' Toyota Camry) about a half-hour ago, while I was driving:
Anyone know what it is? Is it important to get it back on ASAP? I kind of new it was going to eventually come off as it was making noise and hanging low, flapping the past couple weeks.
I fed a wire hanger through the hole two Fridays ago, and hooked it up using the front grate of the car. I knew it probably wouldn't stay on forever.
Can't find much on the Toyota forums. There is another comparable piece underneath the car on the driver's side which is just flapping in the wind when I drive. When I go over 45 I can hear a scraping sound, but am thinking it's just the sound of the wind hitting this panel (the one that didn't completely fall off yet).
Any input welcome, except for "Take it to a dealer or call a dealer." My lease is up soon and it's not worth putting more $$$ into the car, since I'm a good customer and they never penalize me for returning cars with minor problems in the past, when the lease is up.
Thank you,
JDM
Actually, I tried duct tape, but every time it snowed or rained I had to put more on.
Well, OK, I dunno, but I'll give it a BTT. :-(
Oops! Didn’t think of snow angle, being from SF Bay Area & all.
LOL. I did see some folks looking back at me when I glanced in the rear view mirror. The sound is kind of loud.
Whoa there...I don't think we're dealing with McGyver here.
That's how I feel right now!
That’s why you add the zip-tie. Also, a little squirt of WD-40 never hurts anything.
Naw dude, everyone knows it a flambizitractic oppulator. Geesh.
Did you hear a thump when you ran over the attempting perp?
Better start putting a piece of scotch tape over the hood to see when someone's been tampering under there.
Okay, I have no idea but notice I waited until someone gave you an informative response.
“Whoa, broken framistat shield, need to get that replaced asap.”
Only if the interociter is involved.
Likely under body cladding. Cuts down drag and keeps out mud. Probably need to go to a dealer and replace the fasteners which likely came undone or failed. Most modern cars have stuff like this and it falls off easily. Had it happen to my car, it only cost $25 for a new piece.
LOL. I thought the same thing when I was taking the picture.
No need to get technical with us!
It’s a Toyota...your good for another 100,000 miles at lest
I got behind a woman in an Audi the other day with the same sort of thing happening. The fasteners in the middle of her plastic shield had come out and whenever she got over 40mph, it began flapping up and down, scraping the road then slamming up against the bottom of the car. Kinda looked like Pacman or a fish or something.
When she slowed down, it stopped and went back up to where it belonged. I’m sure her’s has broken off by now too.
Nylon ties.
The other one's loose, so it would be easier to remove the last screw and take it off. Just save the pieces and toss them in the trunk when you bring it back. They'll have a detailer stick 'em back on, or toss them when they clean it up. Else you'll have to go to the parts store for clips and screws, jack it up, go under and reattach them.

Keepin y’all up to speed! LOL!
ooops... #37
Think I'll do that. Good suggestion. Thanks.
