Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

For us, wife and I realize it probably part of our “calling” if you will.
My first real job out of college was as a social worker and I spent about the last year or so doing foster care placements (and hating the parents and the system that would do this to kids).
Nana and Papa were all about hospitality and there was always someone visting/staying/eating in their home as wife grew up (often missionaries). So, since we’ve had the house we’ve had wife’s younger sister and (1st) husband live with us, a Japanese teacher live with us for a year, and then Nana moved in.
Before Luke was born we’d already talked about foster care and/or adoption. But we’d never really pursued it.
There’s just something in us that looks at a 4-bedroom house and ponders why any would be empty.
At the same time, I’m too old for more younguns.
ROTFL!
So if you kicked out Jr you could take two foster kids...
better the devil you know...
I’m thinking of taking the boys and going to see “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at ORU tomorrow night...it’s a free dress rehearsal, open to homeschoolers.
You know, I played Snoopy when we did this when I was in college.
And way down there...those tiny little black things.
Those are ants. They make the grass grow...
Heh...yep!
Ever now and then I’ll still bust out singing “Suppertime” and the kids are shocked!
I think it would be fun for them to actually see someone else besides me singing that song.
Well, be careful. They could become thespians you know...
“Rent” is coming here in April/May. I’d like to see it, but after we were screwed out of half a season (and about $300 buck) last year, I’m not inclined to go back to that theater.
I’m hoping wife and I can get a weekend to go to New York in late summer or fall.
What happened with the theater season thing? I missed it, if you mentioned it here.
Me...I’ve decided I wish I could go to a particular guitar camp in Tennessee again. I did one year, wayyyyy back in....2000? 2001? 2001, I think. Yes, because it was the year before Mom passed away. It was one of the best weeks of my life. I am soooo tempted to just slap down the credit card.
Do it! Budget now how much that will be and pay the credit card off right away, but you have to jump at things now and then and just have fun with them. What was the last vacation you had that didn’t involve visiting family? Entmoot, right? So take a week and have fun!
I got rid of all my credit cards after 2005, too much debt.
Trouble is...if I do it, I can’t pay it off right away, especially since I just did the car thing. So I dunno. Could probably pay it off by summer, I suppose.
The catch is that this camp typically sells out (where guitarists are concerned, at least) pretty early. Like...March or April, at the latest.
I think I’ll play with the numbers a bit in the next few days and just see if it’d be feasible. It was really, really awesome when I went. Overwhelming, but awesome. I pretty much didn’t sleep for a week, and I could hear music in my head for about three days afterwards...and I still haven’t worked through the stuff we learned in the classes and all.
And yeah on the Entmoot thing. Not that I don’t like visiting family, but...
Personally, that’s the sort of place where I think using credit cards is ok. Something you can pay for by the time it comes around, but not by a deadline.
Which will you kick yourself more, in April; having a small credit card balance, or being too late to get in?
It's hard to imagine, but it's possible I didn't mention it here.
For the past several years we've subscribed to "Broadway Under the Stars" series here in Richmond. Five touring shows over the course of the year. We did it with friends from church so it was always an event. For the season it was between $400-500, but for that many performances it was usually worth it.
Last year, after two shows (one of them being a poor substitution), the company that ran the shows basically went under. We were left with no return on our money for the three shows we didn't see. About a $300 "value."
This year, the theater has a new management company in. But still no word to those of us screwed out of last year's performances.
