If the cops had evidence against the boys, you can bet that they would and should be prosecuted.
But so far, the cops have said that there is no evidence to support the theory that the boys broke any laws.
I thought the same thing. Why would a paper on the opposite coast get the story? It would be like the Seattle Post Inquirer getting the scoop on the Duke Lacross case.
One young "boy" is dead and two are maimed. Apparently, you don't give a damn about human life.
Yes, but I think it goes, "Shiv is the rod of destruction..."
When, and by whom, was it determined that an illegal search had occured?
Sooner or later, you will learn that dog won't hunt.
I remember all too well how quickly people were to determine their guilt. Now,(as then) I prefer to wait on evidence. One thing is clear so far. The zoo has some liability here. The enclosure was insufficient. How do we know? The tiger GOT OUT.
You forgot to reference me schmucky.
HMMMM Thanks.
Depends on where it happened. If it's California, all bets are off!
Bttt
When my little nephews were small, I bought them sling shots and myself one, we would play cow boy and Indians using candy corn as ammo. There are all sizes of sling shots, these were power by rubber bands. Sort of like a rubber band gun, but some of the animal rights, and PETA whack o's probably wants to band them as well.
DOH!
No, I just believe that anyone old enough to fight and die for his country is old enough to take the consequences of his actions.
These MEN were being stupid. These MEN recieved the rewards of their labors. Case closed.
“Make the zoo donate $5 million to a tiger preservation charity.”
They ARE the tiger preservation society, Tatiana was in the program, and one of the females that would help keep the species alive.
“Not one person has said when this tiger was fed last and/or had interaction with zoo personnel or other patrons. I find that odd.”
The big cats are fed at 2, it’s posted throughout the zoo and in the published brochures available at the zoo, and on their website:
http://www.sfzoo.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=13746&orgkey=1821
Mike Rowe, on Dirty Jobs, accomanied the keepers feeding the cats, including Tatiana. The cats interact with their keepers at feeding time, at night when they are brought inside, and in the morning when they are let out. All of the animals get checkups, inspections, and fed at night. if they require medical attention it’s then they get it.
I have watched them feed the cats probably almost a hundred times or more over the years, it’s no secret and not hard to find out about, and it’s quite incredible to get up and close with the lions and tigers - you can get within 2 feet with no possible harm.
“For all we know, the cat had made an earlier attempt and had hurt herself and the boys had nothing to do with her ultimate escape.”
That makes no sense at all, and her injuries would have been apparent to keepers passing by. The one question I have is where the keepers were at the time of the attack, I’ve been by the grotto hundreds of times, I’ve camped there drawing and photorgaphing the cats, and I’ve talked to the keepers passing by. An attack or attempted attack would have most likely been responded to by Tatiana being brought inside and inspected for injury. Perhaps the keepers were elsewhere preparing to bring the cats in for the night, and the boys, seeing no keepers, were enboldened to use their slingshots on the tiger.
Despite the original theorycraft on this thread and others, the cats are under supervision most of the day. Obviously, during this attack, it was a window when no keeper was present, and I fully suspect that they did whatever they did BECAUSE no keeper was present.
“The facts remain..She escaped, killed a young man, mauled two others and has a history of being “quick tempered”.”
Many of the animals at the zoo have “quick tempers”. They are wild animals, many of them have distinct, outright personalities. One of the lions has an aggresive nature, that I’ve seen, and the great silverback male they have is VERY aggressive, especially against males. Yet nobody has a problem with THEM. I’ve SEEN the male ape taunted with batteries thrown at it. I’ve seen other animals abused by the public. I have NO problem believeing these assholes used a slingshot on the tiger, enraging it and causing it to come after them. Yes, the wall may be too low, and they are raising it. It’s a tradgedy it took two fuckheads like this to discover the problem.
No matter what, these two most likely caused the tiger to react. It was not hungry and going for food, the cats are well fed ON PURPOSE. They have bison and zebra right across the sidewalk from their grotto, and they have never made an attempt to get one of them. The tiger did not feed on the boy killed, it stalked and and tried to kill all of them. It was not just wandering around the sidewalk, as another moron in this thread has repeatedly posted. The tiger was *attacked* and forced into behavior that led to a death, and the two brothers are most likely guilty of murdering their friend. Period. The zoo’s guilt is IRRELEVANT in this, period. That cat would never have come over that wall unless provoked. If the zoo needs to look at ANYTHING, it’s where the keepers were, the ones who patrol the sidewalk normally. They are the front line for keeping idiots from harming the animals, and from trying to scale the fence, and to answer questions, and to call an alarm if something happens. This was not just a random cat getting out and wandering around. Those cats are taken into their interior cages at night. I’ve watched them do it. The cats line up at the door, they know it’s time to go in.
The caretaker lost an arm to this animal. They should have known at this point that this was a lethal animal. That’s why they call them “animals” anyway. It should have been destroyed after the 2006 incident.
The caretaker was an idiot. But then, if you’d actually read the report in question, you would have known that.
Instead of feeding the animal through the bars, the keeper STUCK HER HAND THROUGH THE BARS WHILE CARRYING MEAT.
What do *you* think a hungry cat is going to do? Here’s a hint - try handing a treat to a hungry housecat and carefully watch what they do. The little cat will anxiously bat or grasp your arm while gnawing at your hand in the course of getting food from you. If the cat is really hungry, it will attack your hand to get to the food. A big cat does the same thing, except the scale difference means that even if they’re not intent on causing harm, they can do so inadvertently.
The zoo’s protocol involves (as the Dirty Jobs episode showed) feeding the big cats from outside the cage and never letting your arm get inside the cage. The keeper broke the rules and paid with her arm.
If you are working on heavy machinery and you ignore your training that says that “sticking an arm inside device while operating could cause serious injury or death” and lose your arm for doing so, do you blame the machine? Or do you blame yourself for being stupid?
I would also like to see the police officers who killed the tiger fired pronto.
I’d give the cop a medal!! Pretend those young men are your nephews or grandchildren...and you might be able to put the event into perspective.
She did NOT stick her hands through the bars!! The cat swiped her outside the bars.
