Bryant Gumbel returned to a morning TV anchor chair on Monday, November 1, 1999. According to MRC President Brent Bozell, "for 15 years, Mr. Gumbel used another morning program as a daily platform for personal liberal bias masquerading as news and commentary." Bozell explained that "like everyone else, Mr. Gumbel is entitled to his own opinions -- but not to his own set of facts. Yet he repeatedly used his anchor status to slant the facts to support his personal liberal opinions, misinforming millions."

The October 26, 1999, issue of USA Today reported on Bozell's letter to CBS News, commenting: "One of Bryant Gumbel's frequent critics is after him again, less than a week before the former Today anchor returns to morning TV on CBS' The Early Show. In a letter to CBS News president Andrew Heyward, Brent Bozell, head of the conservative watchdog group Media Research Center, warns that the new show could be a vehicle for 'liberal propaganda.' CBS dismissed Bozell's comments, calling Gumbel 'fair and tough.'"

According to MRC Vice President for Research and Publications Brent Baker, "short of Geraldo Rivera, few have done as much as Bryant Gumbel to lower the standards of professional TV journalism. As an interviewer, he can’t even pose a question without stumbling over his own liberal bias, and we have the audio- and videotape to prove it."

Gumballs is also a blatant anti-white racist (even though he is married to one). He should have been fired for his racist comments last year (just like Jimmy the Greek was) but because Gumballs is black he got a free pass. “Race” is probably the biggest double standard issue when it comes to the mental disorder known as “liberalism”. White racism = bad, minority racism = legal.

While 34.5 million watched the NFL Network's feed of the Patriots beating the Giants, they also saw Bryant Gumbel stumble through the telecast.

I tried to listen...I really did. But Gumbel with Collinsworth thrown into the mix...it was unbearable.
After 5 minutes I ran the video feed with the play by play coming from the local FM radio broadcast with Gil Santos and Gino Capaletti. Two gentlemen who know football and know their audience.

I wouldn't cross the street to pee on Collingsworth or Gumbel even if they were on fire.

Gumball is a real turd if you hear how he dumped his long supportive family.

From http://www.nbc5i.com/whattheel/14932195/detail.html

“What the El” Editorial:

Ladies, if you aren’t into football and you want to see the men around you spin out of control and go into a tirade, mention that you think Bryant Gumbel does an okay job as a commentator!

Here’s the deal for those of you who don’t know… Bryant Gumbel calls the game with Cris Collinsworth, and Bryant sucks at it.

Yes, Bryant Gumbel of “Today Show” fame who went on to host the HBO show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.” Granted the show is good, but it’s because of the nature of the show and the reporters on it.

It’s like saying Stone Phillips is the reason Dateline is good.

Meanwhile, Bryant Gumbel has never NEVER done play-by-play before in his entire life before the NFL Network tapped his shoulder.

Play-by-play is an art, it takes skill and Bryant Gumbel doesn’t have it, but his big brother Greg Gumbel does, as a matter of fact his the sports guy in the family!

So why the NFL Network chose Bryant is beyond me… and most men…

I actually started a firestorm yesterday when I mentioned that Bryant wasn’t the worst I’d ever heard, to which most every man in the room said he was….

In addition to his total lack of knowledge, Gumbel’s voice intonation is the same for a 2-yard run up the middle v. a 95 yard kickoff return. Just awful.

Not a big football fan, but I do watch important games. Since I actually have NFL Network I watched some of the Giants-Pats, I was stunned that I recognized Gumbels' voice. I swear I asked, "What in god's name is he doing on here?".

Kept thinking of a Family Guy episode.

I watched the whole game with the TV on mute. I’ll bet I wasn't the only one to do that.

I watched the game with the sound turned way down.

Addition by subtraction.

I’m an old lady and not much of a football fan but watched the game the other night since I’m a Mass. resident.

I couldn’t stand Gumbel and I thought it was just me being my cranky old self. Glad to see I have some company.

I watched the Dallas-Green Bay game in a sports bar, so the crowd noise fortunately drowned out Bryant Gumball’s hallucinatory rantings.

How would you rate Bryant Gumbel as an NFL announcer?

Terrible 46% 20,733

Poor 24% 10,586

Fair 17% 7,538

Good 8% 3,760

Excellent 5%

In other words, 70% rate him as terrible or poor! LOL!!!!

Reversing it, only 13% rate him as excellent or good!!!

Let’s put that number in perspective. It required six channels in prime time to surpass the 33.8 million who watched the Nov. 4 Patriots-Colts afternoon game on CBS.

It didn't "require" six channels. I'm pretty sure that the same number of people would have watched the game if it were just on one (available) channel.

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. What were they thinking?!

They should try and get Costas to do the play-by-play, even though he hasn't done it in ages. He and Collinsworth seem to have good chemistry.

If he is that unpopular, I believe we have found Hillary Clinton's running mate.

I also noticed that every time a kickoff or punt is going toward Devin Hester, the perspective is always from the end zone he is headed toward. Not only does he change the kicking game for the other team, he also seems to be changing the coverage as well.

I was watching this game with a few friends, and we all decided that the ratings would be better if they got rid of Gumbel and just put microphones in our living room. The commentary was much more entertaining, but would probably have to be on 7-second delay.

I agree with the majority here, that Gumbel sucks, but he did cook off one good line Saturday night. From today's Barstool Sports, a free sports weekly in Boston:

Kudos to Bryant Gumbel for saying Vince Wilfork did "the Moe, Larry, Curly thing" on the eyepoke. It wasn't hilarious, but that's the closest he's come to saying something funny in 30 years of broadcasting. Especially because you know Greg was the kid digging on the Stooges in the Gumbel house while little Bryant was wearing suits, studying current events and practicing his non-regional dialect. If you get the two of them together and say "NIII-ag-ra Falls..." you know Greg's the one that will know what to say.

Cris Collinsworth, who has proved through his work on the NFL Network, NBC and HBO that he is the best N.F.L. analyst around.

While it's true that Gummyballs sucks out loud, I spent half the game yelling at the TV, "Shut the F up, Collinsworth!"
