The Dragonflie's Lair~Thread XLV
Poets of The Lair | November 30, 2007 | Soaring Feather

My Dragonfly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Interesting, Yes, that works for me.
They were also, amazing, bizarre, unique, sometimes wet, sometimes hot, and sometimes best shared with other crazy bastards.

Now what sort of help can we give tongue-tied? I remember a few of the old Liberty Manuals. Think these might still be useful?

1. How to deal with bar babes, drink types, monetary exchange, and group rates?
2. How to make booze from common household materials?
3. How to find escape routes from strange women’s bedrooms?
4. How to buy a beer, order drinks, look for companionship, and ask for a fast taxi to the port in multiple languages.
5. How to not volunteer yourself for anything requiring work?
6. 68 ways to avoid actual commitment in relationships lasting over an hour.
7. The $18 dollar weekend (XXX version with illustrations)
8. Odd customs of the women of many nations (and local variations on a theme)
9. Excuses that work with the Law Enforcement Agencies of U.S. Allies (and other not so friendly nations)
10. Identifying the uniforms of the World’s Police
11. Amazing ways to travel without spending money or being noticed by the Authorities.
12. A fine smoke, a good wine, and a pleasant interlude, Every Man Needs A Hobby!
13. Bars of the World, (rated by types of liquor, cost, and available back doors!)
14. Words NOT to use on first dates and chance meetings!
15. Hygiene while traveling light.
16. Always ask if she has a friend!
17. Low Dives and Houses of Ill-Repute (3 Michelin stars or better)
18. The Physics of Happiness, (Hydraulic, Pneumatic, force vectors, geometry, and modified battery appliances)
19. Hourly Hotel Rates (by country and time of day) (how to use your AAA membership to advantage.)
20. Self-Defense in the Nude, (or full contact Chinese pillow fighting techniques.)
21. Self-hypnotism, (or how to forget the morning after!)
22. Football Schedules (football, not soccer!)
23. Single-malt as a tonic, foot bath, and culinary additive.
24. Gifts Ladies Like for under $25
25. Door locks and How To Bypass Them, (if ‘he’ gets home too early!)

Sadiqi???  Do not know of this!  But I'm very willing to investigate & report back!  (It's a nasty job, but SOMEBODY'S gotta do it!

....BTW: my active Navy duty was June '66 to July '70.

LOL...some good tips there if you can get 'em. The last "Liberty Hound" handout I saw was in around 1988. It was either MIDWAY or INDEPENDENCE, before a Thailand port. They don't do that any more...now it is pre-port briefs like "Buddy system is required to leave the ship, and must return together". "No more than 3 beers in any one sitting, and MUST be consumed with food." "If you come back to the ship intoxicated, you are on liberty risk". (So there goes the safe harbor in a kid's mind when he loses his buddy, drunk.

Sadly, I kid you not. 7th Fleet is a whole new world these days.

We didn’t have “Liberty Manuals”; we just expected to keep away of the “restricted” bars & dives.

Yeah, and those used to be really bad, like get your butt kicked or worse bad. Now it seems like those areas are where the hookers are, is all. :)

Shameless 50 grabber.

“We didn’t have “Liberty Manuals”; we just expected to keep away of the “restricted” bars & dives.”

I am saddened by this, there is something wonderfully important in daring life and taking the chances it offers. That was on of the reasons I worked my way around the world after my Navy time, to see the world, experience it day to day, find the treasures along the way. (I happen to know that the restricted areas had the most to offer, and I was willing to pay the fines each Captain’s Mast to explore them fully.)
