I heard it on America’s Newsroom Fox’s program on in the morning between 9 & 11 am EST yesterday. Megyn Kelly did the story. There’s a link to a video of her interviewing the mother of the dead child. I don’t know if it will have all of what was on yesterday’s show. Megyn then talked to 2 lawyers about why the DA couldn’t go after the hoax family. There was talk of charging them with a misdemeanor of harassment, a civil suit and that the DA should dismiss out of hand the hoax charges against the grieving family for destroying the ping-pong table. http://www.foxnews.com/americasnewsroom/index.html

I wish I could capture that video for a Sunday School class.

Internet crimes are generally Federal crimes. A friend of mine was harrassed and stalked by a former boyfriend, and one of his techniques was to send e-mails about her to her friends, her employer, etc. The local police couldn’t stop him, but recommended that she call the FBI. She did, they got involved, and he ended up on Federal charges.

I would imagine this has moved up a level simply because of the publicity it’s gotten, but this family should know that Internet crimes are often Federal level crimes (because of the interstate aspect) and they should go beyond the local DA.
