What about innocent people who aren’t doing those jobs who get murdered, or shot? Don’t they deserve the same “anger”?

I think they do

You're right, and most innocent people who get murdered do receive the same outcry from the public. But for the most part, most person's killed are not "innocent."

They run in the circles that violent death is a high risk factor. Their families are just as sad about them being murdered as you or I would be if our brother got killed. But the general public couldn't care less.

A bigger deal is generally made of a cop being killed because he/she represents our efforts at order in society. It says that disorder is winning when someone assaults a police officer and killing one is the hightest symbol of disorder.

It scares most folks because, "if that person would kill a cop then he'd have no problem killing me."

The biggest problem is when a community is in denial about how the evil folks are really there every day and the cops are trying to hold them at bay.

When that happens you end up with "shocking" news stories. Shocking news stories that come one after another but for some reason nobody wants to connect them into a pattern of evil that lives among us. They are "outlyer" events and people tsk tsk the story and move on.

Did you spend time in Prison friend? Sounds like you did, that's the same attitude that inmates in prison have. When I was teaching courses in one of the local State prisons here, they used to say "You're no different than us, except you haven't been caught yet." That's a load of crap, and they knew it, and you do too. Two teens were chased down here yesterday and murdered by another kid with a shotgun. There might be "gang related" stuff being said in the news, but the facts are going to be found far from that when it all comes out. What about all these ladies that seem to be "vanishing" lately, later being found murdered, usually by a pissed off spouse. Are you saying they aren't INNOCENT? Give me a break. If a person is going to murder someone, it won't MATTER if it is you, me or a cop. Criminals, in this case, this particular maggot was serving two life sentences. Nothing to lose from his point of view, he's not getting out of prison, so killing a cop (or anyone else) was a matter of course for him. I don't think the public is any more "scared" of someone who would kill a cop, or beat up a 90-something year old woman (like the guy in NYC was doing). The biggest problem is when a community is in denial about how the evil folks are really there every day and the cops are trying to hold them at bay.

Yeah, well, there are a lot of people in denial of a lot of things, including the War on Terrorism, but it doesn't stop people from still trying to ban guns from law abiding citizens throughout the USA either, does it?
