I have a furnace. But I also have a desk heater here, warming my legs. And I’m bundled up. But then, I’m always “bundled up.” I think I’m the only person in the Valley who puts a jacket on to walk into an air conditioned building in the middle of summer.
Lefty, this is the only place you can come to and take a deep breath when the other threads get too heated for you to stick around.
We discuss the same things other threads do, but we don’t argue about anything, because that’s what the other threads are for.
So come on in and relax. Have a drink. Of whatever you’re drinking and have a sammidge.

I remember being brand new to teh forums, back when we had to do html ourselves.
Threads ended up blinking, scrolling, bolded, italicised..
And, at the time, there were no mods.
Flame wars galore.

I lurked forever, and finally jumped in when Canada was bashed one too many times.
I was immediately blamed for any and all Canadians who voted Liberal, even though I hadn’t done so myself since ‘93.
I grew up, and became a conservative Canadian, which I am told is the same as a RINO.
In any event, I fight on, for Truth, Justice, and the Canadian Way, which always includes beer.

The article’s author (not the originator of the quote) observed that all committees are always trying to expand beyond their intended purview. The Parish Festival Committee may be a long way from ready to take over the world, but it only takes a couple of meetings before it’s pushing the boundaries in some way!
The still is located in the middle-lower regions of the Castle. It was a good neighbourhood then, but since then some things have moved in and it's not wise to go down there unarmed. Also, it's not wise to swim in the moat. Plesiosaurs, don't you know.

Ah. In my world committees organized under standards organizations come with "Title, Purpose and Scope" which keeps them in line. Those not organized under standards, though... the old North American committee is trying to become the umbrella for others around the world, including the European committee which is trying to become the umbrella for all the European national committees... I see what you mean. *\;-)
Oh boy, it's darkening outside, at or below freezing, and snowing again.
One head of a department in NDOT sent a memo out saying there were to be “NO CHRISTMAS parties.” You could have holiday parties, and special occasion parties, and birthday parties, and Mother’s Day parties, but nothing with the word “Christmas” in it.
Wellnow. Dontchaknow the Gubnah was deluged with emails (including one from yours truly) saying, in effect, “Shame On YOU!”
The next memo she sent out rescinded the previous one....
She’s her own committee.
