I think that it all goes to Larry's story as to what THEY were going to name the baby, the phoney marriage which preceded the filing with "Howard" named as the father and the "citizen" status. The marriage merely fulfilled a Bahama "father contact" clause.
I believe that Anna thought they were REALLY married BUT HOward never filed the license (Special boat clause...license can be filed after). IMO, Anna never knew it was not filed.

I can’t argue that point effectively because we don’t have access to the records at Bahama registrar, nor do we have records from Doctor’s Hospital, or of Dr. Minnis, or the followup pediatrician. It is my experience that the birth certificate information is collected immediately after birth at the hospital. ANS was hospitalized for at least three days prior to Daniel’s death. Was ANS given the original to carry back to the USA, as Dr. Minnis indicated that she was ready to ‘go home’ ? Is there anything like the ‘freedom-of-information-act’ in the bahamas that would cover incomplete (unfiled) birth records? dunno
We know what HKS filed a month after the birth, after adding his name, without the ‘required affidavits attached’. Clearly, his filing differed from the ‘original’, because affidavits were required for the ‘changes’. Logic dictates there had to be a prior document for the registrar to require such affidavits to ‘add’ HKS’s name. HKS added ‘Stern’ and ‘Marshall’, but no Hogan or Smith.
I do find it intriguing that Anna used “hogan” (identification with her mother/father) instead of ‘smith’ or ‘marshall’ as her own sirname, thereby making the baby a “hogan” (standard old-school geneological practice) - and HKS would have had one hellofatime trying to change Anna’s sirname, along with DL/Hannah’s sirname. Smart move on her part, I’d say, and an important clue.
We can assume, that for the first four days at least, the baby was given some sort of name. For all I know, it could have been ‘virginia’ Ha! I have serious doubts that Anna would have picked ‘dannielynn’, a contraction of LB’s schoolmarm’s name, on her own, had she had any inkling at all of it’s significance. Would you?

I doubt Anna really even knew what was going on the ‘marriage day’ - maybe she thought/was told it was just an act to get LB to go away. Maybe she thought/was told it was a Britney wedding - to be annulled the next day. Maybe she thought/was told it was pretend. Maybe it was an ultimatum from HKS/KE.
I think a LOT was kept from Anna. Remember the link I posted a while back that referenced Feb 2004 as a date that ANS found out that HKS had never filed any trademarks protecting Anna? She obviously went into that lawsuit thinking that she was protected by trade/service/copyright rights. In spite of the several million made just for DL birth/interviews, she wrote GBen/shelley on Sep 29th that she was ‘broke’. did she even know she’d gotten paid or how much?
HKS said of the death pictures, he’d ‘walk thru walls’ to make Anna happy. Yet he fails to file a marriage certificate? and says almost immediately after that it was a ‘mistake’ and was being ‘litigated’? where’s the litigation? Did Anna see those interviews? Why hasn’t HKS corrected the Bahama press who continue to term him, ‘husband’. ?? Surely Lin Wood would be all over that!
Did you notice if HKS is listed as ‘husband’ in the calif probabe filings?
