Bald Truth Exclusive: Larry Birkhead Wins Again; Judge Orders Debra Opri: Get Ready For Trial!

In a world wide web exclusive, The Bald Truth has learned Larry Birkhead has once again won another round against his fired attorney Debra Opri to have their fee dispute settled in front of a jury, not arbitration.
“In layman’s terms,” Birkhead attorney Michael A. Trope told me in an exclusive interview Thursday morning after beating back Opri’s lawyers in Los Angeles Superior Court , “we asked for a jury trial. There was a hearing on that and the judge ruled that was the proper thing to do. Opri didn’t like that decision, so they filed a motion to ask the court to think about their previous ruling again, and today the court denied their request.”
Debra Opri could not be reached for comment, but her attorney, David Owen, told Trope he planned to appeal. Again?
The first pre-trial hearing was set for December 20.
Asked why Opri was so adamant to arbitrate, Trope believes she’s trying to avoid testifying under oath. “If there’s an arbitration, she wouldn’t have to testify in an open courtroom under oath,” says Trope. “I believe the real reason she wants to avoid a jury trial is she’s desperate to avoid me examining her under oath regarding her conduct in front of a jury of her peers.”

Admittedly, I am not ‘up’ on all the Opri docs however;
what I have read or skimmed, she is an idiot with and idiot for her lawyer too. Time will tell but I get the feel she did not follow standard itemization practices. If she does’t get her act together on the legal front she will lose this with a jury.

Not from a legal perspective, but based on the chaos that occurred - I think Clarence Darrow be in a pickle.
Opri anticipated just a paternal/custody case. Before long she was racing all over the place, California, Florida the Bahamas. Grooming her client. Schmoozing the media. Trying to set up DNA testing - confronting Anna & HK$ -then Daniel dies - then Anna dies. Opri had to wonder *What the h*ll did I get involved in?*
I’ll cut her some slack - especially since her client bushwacked her in the most despicable way - I hope she can pull this one together.
my humble opinion is that Opri doesn’t want a trial, because it effectively cuts into her own ability to earn a livelihood. Also, I somehow think that, being the child advocate she is, she really doesn’t want to shred a child’s father to ittybittybackwoodgrifterpieces, which she will.
Trope/LB should be shaking in his boots about Opri being on the stand - under oath, attorney client privilege doesn’t stand.
I have no problem with her legal fees - attorneys in Calif start at $250/hr (for the so-so ones) upwards to $450-$500/hr - So to me, it’s a realistic sum. Certainly not what the ‘talking legal heads’ on tv make, but that was their choice, right?
I see nothing wrong with Opri not only cutting a legal representation deal, but also a ‘agent’ agreement. (I think it’s confusing everyone by the wording as a ‘media agreement’). She signed on as his agent, and promptly negotiated the NBC $1M contract signed the week of the funeral. She produced - immediately! but LB got all full of himself and blatently violated his agent agreement by going out on his own to negotiate, trying to run an end play around Opri and robbing her of her due commissions as an agent. Not a good thing to do imo. Probably got his advice from HKS.
let’s not forget that during the summer of 06, LB was cast-calling for bit parts - considering his so-called real estate background, and his so-called journalism background and his so-called photographer background, I found it very curious at 34 (pretty old for hollywood) he wanted to ‘break into’ movies/sitcoms. No breaking in, without an agent - that’s just how hollywood works.

A decent human being does not sit back and wait for some lawyer to contact them when they know there is a lie out there killing a career and years of works. When they know a scumbag is exploiting a child. Decent doesn’t go to media and stick up for the liar either! So if LB would have kissed her rear end, romanced her to a wedding, she would have what, kept the lie to herself and let him be a free con to hurt anyone BUT her? Great lady to put children in the hands of .. NOT.
I am always amazed how many low life heartless scum of the earth this case digs up. She is just one more on the list. Let her sit next to Buckhead’s a**hole of a sister. God help Dannielynn, this is the kind of scum she is surrounded by!

Doesn’t matter how big a creep the client is.. SHE was suppose to be the lawyer. Who wants to get ripped off by a lawyer? No one I know. It is a business and she forget to treat it with respect imo.
She was suppose to keep detailed itemized records and time sheets. It appears she is lacking many of those. She wanted to play Hollywood money maker big shot and got bit at her own games. Goodness, she draws up bad contracts to boot! Not only is she a liar, she is a bad attorney more impressed with her past than knowing enough law to protect herself even.
I have to agree with Troup, she doesn’t want to go under oath. Her career is shot so I doubt there is much cutting in time. She should have thought about that when plotting and lying to us. She went above and beyond her own deceit games and now doesn’t like being caught in them. Well, sorry, I have no pity when cons con each other. LB and DO both are liars. Dumped that tape out for Hasseldorf (or whatever his name is ) for his children to have to live w/ their friends seeing that. I have no compassion for someone that deliberately CONNED me! Sitting here in the midst of concern for a baby and a murdered mom and brother and all Opri wanted to do was con us all. That is where I really quit caring what happened to her for her part in evil games.
