TUCSON, Ariz. A Mrs. America contestant from Tennessee spent about 15 hours in a hospital here after being bitten by a rattlesnake at a hotel.
Christina Ryan of Franklin said she caught sight of a spider on an outside staircase at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort while walking to a rehearsal last Sunday morning for this weekends competition.
She jumped away from it and a rattlesnake bit her right foot, just above her toe.
As time went on, Ryan said the pain got worse. She spent about 15 hours in the hospital and received 10 vials of antivenin before being released.
Ryan said shes working on walking in heels on the swollen foot.
Interviews for the Mrs. America contestants will be held Saturday with preliminary competition Sunday and the finals on Sept. 5.

I got a 5” eastern diamondback a few years back. His head was the size a grown man’s hand and body as thick as a tree branch. The big ones are scary as all get out, but the 1-2 footers are the mean ones - they are real aggressive
I’d like to personally offer to give this poor girl a place for recovering.
Big Love
Oh dear, I’m afraid I believe you :^)
“...with them long artificial fingernails?”
Careful! The “Free Republic Fashionistas” are going to gang up on us, LOL!
I had a cashier at work this season who was asked to help me out in the yard with tending to the plants by our boss, because we were short handed that day and I had huge deliveries of plants to deal with.
I took one look at those fancy fingernails and told my boss to pick someone else that could actually be of USE to me for the day! ;)
