Vanity. Were/Are "Nazis" Left-wing or Right-wing?

Posted on 08/28/2007 7:09:08 PM PDT by PinkChampagneonIce

This is my first vanity, and I am afraid. However, I am so confused that I am forced to post. I know there are people here who have a much better understanding of political history than I, and hope you can provide some clues. Growing up, Fascists/Nazis were always described to me as "right-wingers." It was only after I graduated from college that I discovered that Nazis were actually members of the National SOCIALIST Party, which would lead me to believe they were actually "far leftists." However, whenever Nazis and neo-Nazis are discussed, as in posts related to the recent Neo-Nazis in Germany, they are always described as "extreme right-wing." This is making me insane. Are/were Nazis leftist socialists, or right-wing fascists? What are the criteria for each?

You probably should consult the grammar police. That headline makes my head hurt.

NSDAP National Socialist German Workers Party.

Socialist is normally left of everyone except the Communists.

Workers’ World Daily is left of everyone!

As Nationalists, They were only “right” in the sense of “less collectivist” compared to the Internationalists.

Me, I am just slightly to the right of Attila the Hun. I have to go rest up for my next session of looting and pillaging.

The Communist Party USA opposed going to war against Nazi Germany until Adolph Hitler betrayed Uncle Joe Stalin if that means anything to your decision.

These Communists rallied in the streets to oppose “war” (an opposition they soon dropped). These SAME Communists rallied in the streets to support their North Vietnamese comrades (and make no mistake that Jane Fonda was public in her support for Communism and North Vietnamese dominance of that country). These SAME Communists rally in the streets to oppose war in Iraq.

I loathe Socialists.

The National Socialist Worker’s Party of Germany (NAZI Party) was extreme left socialist.

Unfortunately, politics is not linear, it is a circle.

The difference between extreme left and extreme right is nonexistent - just, who rules.

In either case, they mean to rule, and you will submit, or be killed.

BTW, the German name was NSDAP. In Englisch, Nazi.

Nazis were socialists despite all the indoctrination to the contrary. This was discussed here:

based upon a very thorough article here:

From Wikipedia:

Nazism, a form of National Socialism (German: Nationalsozialismus), refers primarily to the totalitarian ideology and practices of the Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers' Party, German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP) under Adolf Hitler. It also refers to the policies adopted by the government of Germany from 1933 to 1945, a period in German history known as Nazi Germany or the "Third Reich".

Right-Wing and Left-wing in Europe means something different than right-wing/left-wing in the U.S.

In Europe, there are two extremes of Socialism: the left-wing (Communists) and the right-wing (fascists).

The left-wing believes that the state owns all property, to be shared with the people as their needs demand.

The right-wing believes that private citizens can own private property, to be controlled and taxed by the government.

...but both the left and right wings of socialism believe in government control of the economy.

Of course, those views are foreign to the U.S.

Here, the left-wing means “liberals” and the right-wing means “conservatives.”

“Here, the left-wing means “liberals” and the right-wing means “conservatives.”

Which is to say, in the U.S. “left-wing” refers to all socialists (fascists and communists), while “right-wing refers to capitalists.

During the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, Hitler purged everyone from the National Socialist Party who thought that the party was about socialism. He did this for several reasons.

He started out on the left, but went right when it suited him.

Really. And who passed the largest entitlement program in three generations?

Bush. A right-wing republican socialist.

Thanks. I have the article bookmarked for later reading. This may sound strange, but my gut feeling is that current leftists may consider the Nazis to be “right-wing” because they were organized and effective. I haven’t thought this one through, but it seems like most liberals (and I was one and one time), consider people who aren’t “nice” to be right-wingers. In other words, if a group is organized and committed enough to have uniforms and a plan and is effective in battle, they just naturally must be facists!

I always felt that the big difference was that the Fascists allowed some free enterprise where the Communists wanted to control everything. Using this reasoning has led me to conclude that China and Russia have flipped from Communism to Fascism.
