In the “sheesh, somebody does have worse luck than the Stormhands” dept., wife just told me that during the storm the other night lightning fried our nayber’s (and wife’s boss lady) son’s computer AND hot tub. The hot tub is under warranty...but storms aren’t covered.
Then today at a sales presentation, she fell and the hand cart rolled over her. She’s okay, just bruised and a little bloody.
‘Course she won’t be able to relax in the hot tub tonight.
Well, I suppose it’s comforting to know it’s not just you. :~)
Winmag, we have thought of getting a UPS... it’s on the wish list. At the moment we turn off the machines and unplug the surge protectors from the wall if the power is getting iffy.
Sorry to hear that.
I forgot to mention that respectable brands of UPS systems (I only buy APC) carry an insurance policy that provides several thousands of dollars of coverage on the equipment plugged in to it. A lightning hit (usually a secondary EM pulse) should fry the UPS and keep the computers safe. Whole-house lightning protection can also be added between the pole power line and your circuit box.
