I heard on the traffic report that a tree had fallen on a power line in your neck of the woods (1st street and something?) and was on fire. Guess if you hadn’t noticed, then it wasn’t that big of a deal.
One of my best friends from college was from just outside of Nashville. He had a thick Tennessee accent. After just one quarter he went home and his family accused him of "sounding like a yankee." (he never did)
;-)
So this weekend while we were in Texas, the gate guard at the hospital takes a look at our licenses and says something about Iowa and us being Yankees. Heh...
I actually went down to Maryville College for a guitar camp a few years back. Really pretty part of Tennessee. Knoxville area.
What cracked me up was that so many of the local folks had trouble understanding *me*! I had to keep repeating myself. By the end of the week, my own voice sounded really weird to me, since I was mostly hearing southern accents of various stripes — most folks were from somewhere in the Southeast, though from all over that region.
I liked that area. Very friendly folks. Chatsy. ;-)
Mrs. will actually be in Maryville on Thursday fer a sales thing.
I haven’t been to Knoxville since the 1984 World’s Fair...
Prezactly!
LOL! And the sad part of it is that I could read and understand everything in the Murlin word reference, without having to look at the standard English translation. It’s pretty much just like people talk in Alabama, with the exeception of the transplanted Yankees of course. ;o)
This place drives me nuts on so many different levels that my minor irritation at all the mumbling gets magnified several-fold.
I'll second that, though my Daddy always said that after the third move, it pays to burn. ;o)
I’ll bet HE wouldn’t do it that way, though. ;o)
Hah! That’s a good one!
Our New Jersey neighbors were mystified once when I was talking about boiled peanuts. She asked, “What in the heck are BALLED peanuts?” Now I know I have an accent, but I didn’t think it was THAT bad! LOL!
Our kids get that, all the time, from our families. ;o)
I never noticed that you had an accent...
I've always considered the Murlund accent a "Tidewater Virginia meets Philly" thing.
*snort* Folks up here are alway amused when I tell them I’ve been here almost 20 years. They always ask, “And you still have your accent?” I tell them I’ve hung onto it just to be ornery. ;o)
y’alls accent done kilt this here thraid...
We are thawing, and it’s also pouring down rain off and on! I got the driveway cleared off so Oz has a easy way out.
I’m on call to work this evening for the Medical Reserve Corps. Doing nursing care for people (elderly mostly) in shelters. Don’t know if they’ll need me, but I’m available if they do.
Nuthin’ but rain in St Louis...
had two dr’s appointments tuhday... waitin’ around fer my daily dose...
Werk sent us home with laptops. It’s the lull between the storm, they think. Lots of power out and I think it might get worse. We have a couple big branches down on the roof and the driveway. Nothing too serious though.
