Yes, I’m really excited about it!

See, when you work agency...you’re a rented mule and often times you’re beat like one. (Hospice is different and why I like it so much...agency hospice is “one on one” patient care...you don’t have to deal with burned out unhappy nurses who push their “problem” patients off on the hapless agency nurse. Agency nurses are paid a lot, for good reason.)

But when you are an actual employee of a hospital, generally your co-workers have some measure of respect for you.

And it’s been a long time since I was excited about going to work. Before I quit to raise the boys, I had to work for us to survive, yet all my instincts were telling me to stay home with my young children! It was misery and I finally just decided not to do it any more.

Now I don’t have those instincts tearing at me and I’m excited about getting back in to it. The new job will also allow me to float to the ER and also Labor and Delivery occasionally, which will be great experience!

Heh. Sounds like too much work. I’ll stick to painting for now.

Where will you be primarily based in the hospital job? Any particular section? How does the ER float thing work — do nurses take turns handling that duty?

We have a friend who is a nurse at the hospital near us.

She was in maternity when Luke was born. She was in ER when Jr. broke his hand. She was in intensive care when Nana dislocated her hip.

We told her not to tell us if she was transferred to the morgue.

Congrats, that sounds like a pretty darn good deal. Kudos for picking up the ‘starched hat’ again and running with it.

Painting sounds better, and a bit easier as well, than wall removal, especially if it’s a loading bearing wall.

We are both too lazy to be good nurses. We’d get fired the first day.

I’m going to buy myself a nice clipboard.

Primarily med/surg. That’s my specialty. Sick and surgical patients, in other words.

They call that “being on the floor”. I’m a floor nurse, so to speak. But if they don’t need me on the floor, and they’re short personnel in the ER or Labor and Delivery, I can float (if I want) to those other floors, with the understanding that I am not experienced, but will help where I can and gain experience at the same time.

Yum.

And I’m trying to be so good about sweets this year.

As in not make quite so many.

But dang... some of those look good.

I thanked the woman that scheduled me...I thanked her several times and she said “No, I should be thanking you!” (They make their bread and butter every time I accept a shift.) I told her if she ever should be feeling that ol’ “job satisfaction” feeling, now’s the time and she just roared! Then she called me back a few minutes later and offered me another shift!

So I’m working the 22nd, 24th, 25th, and 30th.

And while I was just typing that, I got another shift on the 23rd!!

I’m booked!
