Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Yay! I’m taking an online course starting Monday! Woo-hoo! Two semesters and that degree will finally be done!
I still think it was better to get the MRS last year and the MS this year than the other way around.
I may have electricity back by Monday...
Yikes that’s a significant outage!
What happened? Are there major trees and lines down? Normally if they just zapped a few transformers, they can get it back online pretty quick.
Time to invest in a hand-cranked laptop.
You would have thought they would have learned their lesson after Isabel and buried more lines. But not so much.
Some areas near us got over five inches of rain. And there was severe lightning and wind all around.
Wife has been out at Panera most of the day. We’ll be having dinner there this evening.
Tomorrow we’ll be cleaning out the deep freeze.
Sigh. Not really a lot that we’ll lose. Just a couple hunnert dollars worth of pureed food we bought for Nana.
Huh - I just can’t get my head around severe weather in the middle of summer. That kind of stuff hits us in the winter, not summer.
We have the occasional ice storm in the winter. But we lose power more often in the summer.
To be fair though, we rarely lose power unless the weather is really severe. This is the first time since Isabel it’s been out more than maybe an hour or so.
So, I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.
But, I prolly will anyway...
Okay, I’m going dark.
Not sure when I’ll have a connection again. See y’all when I do.
Well, there’s always board games by candlelight! Have a good weekend. - unplugged :~)
I think I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I’ve been looking at classes in blacksmithing. And pricing forges. And anvils.
Looks like fun. I could make stuff.
You’ll put your eye out.
Seriously... what is it you want to make?
Well... first off it seems most people start off with something easy like hat-hooks. :-)
But I do need a new pike-pole. The old one has dis-integrated.
But I do think it would be a fun hobby. There’s gas forges that aren’t all that expensive or big.
I always thought he was gonna catch that truck on fire in the driveway... it burns really hot!
Current shoer has a forge at home, he says... but he doesn't hot fit shoes. It's a dying art, I think.
That’s pretty groovy.
Farriers... that’s a special skill. Not sure I’d like that.
I found myself wandering the web and finding like these 4 or 5 day classes even here in Washington, where they teach introductory smithing. Would make a fun vacation week, I think. Take a week off and cruise down to White Salmon (where one of them is) and spend the week learning how to make stuff. Would be fun. A different sort of diversion.
Sounds a little fun!
I think I’d burn myself.
Well, yah, that’s a risk.
I think it would be interesting. There’s a rich history about it.
Evening Ramius - sounds like a great idea for a vacation and a new hobby. You know, you can make all sorts of great stuff that way, say bodkin arrowheads. :-)
Twisted handle railroad spike knives are usually a hit at rendevous around these parts. Similarly tomahawk heads, both throwing and camp...list is a long one. I’m pretty sure the hobbit hole denziens would keep your order box well filled. btw, when do you want me to ship you some railroad spikes. :-)
Good luck with your new avocation.
