The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

there's some real characters in airports. Woah nelly!

I try to avoid looking....they hurt my eyes.

Well sometimes there's listening, and sometimes smelling, and when things get really dire, touching. Urgh.

There was one gal with a tourettes'-like twitches that involved involuntary lunges across the entire row of seats.... that was a fun trip.

Eh...I don’t have a problem with buying bottled water. I was just thinking of picking up some Teddy Grahams and nuts and such for the trip, especially since - what with all the time zone weirdness - I’m not usually super hungry when traveling.

I didn’t know it was going to be so controversial. ;-)

Oh well then. Trail mix and Teddy Grahams are one thing.

It was soundin’ like you wuz gonna pack a ham or a turkey or somethin’...

Heh, like my friend Nancy's Jewish Grandmother who brought 3 lbs. of beef brisket, a pound of chopped liver, and a 9 x 13 Almond Cake, when they flew from Memphis to Tallahassee for Nancy's graduation from FSU. ;o)

Ah, Gradma Gruber. Whatta nice lady! Used to send me hamentaschen every Purim, because she knew Nancy couldn't get any good ones in Tallahassee!

In my defense...I did say "crackers"...

I think Lil was on my wavelength. Trail mix is good.

... In other news...one of the top things a helpdesk gal *doesn't* want to hear from the sys admin types is "we were just *standing* by the server rack, and one half of it went dark, and..." Turns out they plugged in one too many things for the UPS to handle...ungh...welcome back, boss...

Glad you got it fixed. Personally, I don’t use Word. I prefer Open Office.

Heh.

I really wonder about that new caveman sitcom supposedly coming soon.

Sure, the commercials are cute but I just don’t think there’s enough material there to last beyond one or two episodes. Once you tell the same joke six or eight ways... Its usually pretty much spent.

Evenin’ folkses.

A whole caveman sitcom? Good grief! I can’t even stand the commercials anymore. But then, I’m not their target market because I don’t watch sitcoms anyway.

Stopped at the library on the way home today to get books for the trip. Normally I’m too worried about leaving something behind or wrecking something to take library books, but I guess at some point I have to accept that I’m now and adult and hopefully no more likely to lose ‘em on a trip than I would be at a coffee house or at work. ;-)

I’m rereading Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next books, which are a LOT of fun and highly recommended, particularly if you really like literature - although some have a bit of language, and he uses all kinds of well-known characters in his books, so you have to kind of be open minded about that... I also picked up the book on fiction writing that was sitting by the check-out. It’s called “Hooked” and it’s mostly about how to start a story in a way that pulls readers in. I figure since we *mostly* write the beginning of a story for NaNo, it’ll be useful. Might even give me some ideas...

Someone’s selling fainting goats on Craigslist. Would Gidget like a goat that faints when startled?

Maybe something like that would be a good way to teach Cisco not to rush people...
