The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

We're just getting started. The pic didn't show the retaining wall we spent most of the day building.

Digging deeper, in the Granite State, would be frustrating. (Lots of huge granite boulders.)

Instead, earth will be piled up to create a hill. Under that hill, will be a hole.

does that mean we all have to build our own real hobbit Holes?

Only if you want the advantages: 1) low heating and cooling bills 2) low property taxes 3) less disturbed wilderness

There is no NH income tax. So minimizing property taxes lets you keep more of your money.

*waves*

I’m kicking myself for not moving sooner. Not as many elitist twats as I had imagined... and many more good people ready to defend their rights.

This is a q-chord, it's a digital cross between an autoharp and a guitar and a keyboard. He has an autoharp, too, but it's got electric pick-ups and an amp (!!). Back in high school, I marched the clarinet, played tenor sax in jazz/pit band, oboe for concert band, piano/keyboard for choir and pep band, fifes, recorders, and whistles for fun and annoyance.

But let me add that’s about fifteen years ago. I’m only ten years’ out of practice on the pianer.

A lot of people (especially southerners, I gotta say) have this really skewed view of allll of New England being “old money” stuffed shirts and huge cities...when in reality, most of the smaller states are very rural for the most part, and rather conservative except in the bigger towns, especially on things like gun rights and allowing local government a good amount of say.

I wish I still had a couple of recorders hanging around. I liked mine. :-\ Used to have a few sopranos (including a wooden one) and an alto, but I think other siblings claimed them.

Heh. The store-bought trim doesn’t match my trim color-wise. ..painting trim. I think I need a base shoe or something to trim off the corners where the wall trim meets the under-the-door trim. I think I’ll have an overabundance of trim by the time this job is finished. :)

I also finished the latch relocation on thegate and put in a stop so the gate won’t overextend and pull the screws out of the latching thingy.

Time to fire up thegrill for hamburgers and grilled okra.

So...I’m still playing with the Aeroporter page, to the point where I almost have all my itinerary memorized - they ask for flight numbers and all that. Ugh.

I’ve finally figured out that it’s fifty dollars round trip from all the way down here, *if* you get picked up at a motel instead of giving them an unscheduled stop. That’s not tooooo bad. A lot better than near a hundred - or the hundred and thirty it would cost me to park at the airport. And it would mean not having to try to get up to Tacoma on my own by six in the morning.

So...any chance you’d be willing to drive me to the Motel 6 or the Comfort Inn or some such place at O dark thirty next Saturday? I’d just park there, but when I’ve been to motels recently, they asked for plate numbers if you were going to park overnight. :-\ I’m probably just bein’ a nervous Nellie...but it’s what I’m good at!

Taking a break to recharge the battery for the drill driver. Keeping fingers crossed the charger has a couple of recharges in it. The other battery? It rolled craps last year.

Yeah - I can drive you - but I’m pretty sure if they have an aeroporter pickup there, that they have an arrangement for parking for the aeroporter customers... I mean... leaving cars there is half the point! ;~)

Ask the aeroporter if you can leave your car there.

When I was in the Air Force, for the first time in my life I came across people who made snap judgments about me, my background and my life motivations based simply on where I was from and some stereotyped views they had of it. I didn’t much care for that.

I’ll leave it at that.

Then I’d have to actually call them...I’m doin’ the lazy way and using the internet.

OK. I’ll see what I can find out.

If I do end up needing a ride, I’d have to be there by five thirty, I think.

Yes, I know. But sometime in your life you have to get that chip off your shoulder and learn that sometimes a joke is a joke, and leave it at that.

For better or for worse folks try to judge people based on what little they know about them. Thet can immediately see gender and color, and that is enough for many. They figure if they know where someone is from they can write a dissertation. Generally they make better judgements as they get more information.

See I’d be a whole lot more cheerful about driving you all the way to the airport if it wasn’t at such a gawdawful hour ;~)
