Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Ha! My first thought, too!
I have a boat load of prescriptions to take, though. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart's $4 scrip plan, because when we bought the Romney care insurance plan, we didn't get prescription coverage because none of us was using enough scrips to fool with it. HAR! There were only two of the 6 meds I need that are NOT on the Wal-mart list, so that's extremely helpful. What's interesting, too, is that our new insurance plan just became applicable on Dec. 1st! Good thing this didn't happen in November, when we were waiting for the plan to take effect!
Anyway, I'm glad to be home, and I appreciate all your prayers for my getting better. They sure seemed to help!
That’s a great picture of your cousin’s family!! Would have made a perfect insert for a Christmas Card!
I'll have to call Dr. Goyal's office on Monday to see if they have any paper strips of it.
The conversion worked like a charm, it seems like! The nurses said I had good heart rhythm from the time it was done. The only thing that hurts is the Angio Seal, so I'm just taking it easy, and not going up the stairs until it's time to go to bed tonight.
At least in the shopping department.
Sorry I can’t join you there but I’m broke.
Dearest NW Hobbits,
My son has Portland on the brain and is seriously considering a move there with a buddy of his in a couple of years to go to grad school (economics). The plan is to work for a year to establish residency then school. He’s a self-taught geek, has an A+ certification ,a couple of IT certifications and currently does network admin and IT stuff for a local real estate investment firm over here when he’s home on school breaks.
He and his friend are thinking of making a recon trip there during their spring break in March.
FYI, He’s a counterculture conservative kid with a mohawk and ring gauges, thrives on debating with libs and he knows that there is large liberal to whacko minded culture there.
Any advice y’all can give me to relay to him as to places or sections of town to definitely avoid as well as places that are unique counter-culture type districts, spots or other places that are worth seeing?
Take your time, I’m gone for the rest of the day/eve.
Back to the IT stuff, I keep pushing him to hit Linux hard, Ramius, is that helpful background for IT work in the NW?
I appreciate it.
Whoo-hoo, that’s Great Newz SuziQ, great news indeed. OB & LSA
We skipped a family function because brother-in-law-who-must-not-be-named was going to be there. We found out ~on our way there~.
Some people in the fam'ly seem to have "moved on."
We haven't.
a) I was born there (though we moved shortly after), and my mother really liked the city. But that was...a long time ago. Ahem.
b) It's supposedly one of THE best places with regards to both public transportation and getting around by bike.
c) It is the home of Powell's Books, which is (so they say) one of the coolest bookstores in the country. It's one of the reasons I'd like to visit Portland someday...
d) There's a pretty darned good live music scene, for almost all genres, if your son is into such like.
I don't know a lot about the tech market there, but I think it's relatively good.
Sorry I can't be of more help! It does *sound* like a nice place, and I know (or know of) a good number of strong conservatives there, so I think there are definitely a lot of pockets of good folks. More so than Seattle, I think, though I guess I also just don't know (or know of) as many Seattle folks.
All of the above, and also collectors who realize how nice it would be to have a genuine pistol belt, ammo pouch, canteen, etc. from the same era as their weapon. The problem is this stuff is pretty ephemeral compared to the weapons themselves. It was easier and cheaper to find M1956 and M1967 gear in the middle 1970s than it is now. Hence a lot of unmarked repros, and repros with fraudulent markings.
Some items, like carbine-related canvas, were made in such huge numbers that genuine un-issued items were still available at decent prices until a few years ago. To correctly finish my Stevens trenchgun, I spent $20 for a genuine WW2-still-in-the-wrapper web sling, when it would probably have cost $1 ten years ago.
One source, with waaaay too much to absorb at one time, is olive-drab.com. I notice a lot of European interest in this stuff. Probably because they can't have the weapons, but would like some genuine accessories to go with their state-approved non-guns.
I saw these two products for $30 today.
1. Summitsoft "Systemtech XP". Lots of features including registry cleanup (which i believe it needs).
2. Migo "Registry Repair". Mostly registry cleanup, and a couple other items.
Any recommendations?
I don’t know a whole lot about Portland except that you can’t ever go out the same way you came in... all the roads only go one way ;~)
Heh...and there’s a big bunch of water between the two sides, isn’t there?
I’ve heard that it’s not a fun place to navigate by car. Maybe that’s why they encourage other means of transport.
Never heard of either one.
Well, Corin, that’s as good a reason as any to turn around and go home.
Maybe it would help if you would describe the problem you’re trying to solve. ;~)
Glad you were able to head home! Take it easy!
Well there’s something to be said for discretion.
Phew! We just had second Christmas dinner.
For Christmas we ended up at brother’s house with a ham dinner which was all good but left us with a small fortune invested in fresh oysters for turkey dressing. And since we didn’t find a turkey small enough or thawed enough to suit us, we ended up with roast duck (more dark meat) and oyster dressing.
Why Saturday night and not Sunday afternoon? So I’ll have more time to work on the leftovers!
