This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Great pics. You think it’s time for that girl to move up to a larger ride?
Oh and Kari, the guy on the white horse was Ricky, from Faye Whittemore Farms. When they called out his name on the loudspeaker I said “Hey, I KNOW that guy!”. I got pictures of his whole run. I talked to him as we were leaving and told him I’d e-mail them to him. The next Extreme Trail Horse Competition is going to be at his place, the Saturday before Labor Day, so maybe we can go down there if we don’t have some other place planned. Hopefully I’ll be able to ride by then!
Heh, yeah probably! She could stand up off of him if she had too much trouble. He sure was cute though, and fast as greased lightning. Sometimes he’d whinny and his little voice was so high pitched that he sounded more like a rabbit than a horse. Too cute!
Okay, then maybe the solution is for the pony to get a smaller rider!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
I wish I could have gone. I doubt Faith would’ve done that w/o someone in front of her. Daisy would have come closer, but I really need to work on side passes.
GREAT PICTURES.
Can’t wait to go to FWF for Ricky’s. Glad you found out.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, too. There are lots of us!
I’m sure he’s not her regular mount. After all, what girl her age would want to be seen as needing to ride a “Pony”! Horrors! He probably started out as her first pony and has been passed on down to her little brother, shown in the background. I’m sure Little Brother hasn’t quite got the horsemanship yet to make a proper showing on the course, so Big Sister rode him. He’s more than stout enough to carry her for a short time.
Hey Thanks! Funny, I don’t feel any older today. Now if you’d asked me LAST Sunday I might have answered differently. I felt like a hundred-year-old sack of $h!t that’d been run over by a truck! ;o)
I don’t think any of mine would have done all the obstacles either. We need to set up a course and practice! But Ricky said his mare had never done any of that stuff either. But she’s a working cow horse. The only thing he had a problem with was the trailer load, and that’s only because he’s got so many trails on his place that he never HAS to trailer anywhere very much. She DID get in though, on the 2nd try, so he’s got nothing to be ashamed of.
Those are cool pictures! I think Cyn could do all that stuff cold but Bay would dance around at the plastic things!
And Happy Birthday!
Yeah, I was thinking about Bay when I saw TheBluePlasticTunnelOfDeath! ;o) I’m sure that thing was was rustling too because there was a little bit of a breeze. They had little flags and flappy things all over the place. If you go back and look, there’s inflatable pool toys all over everything.
Thanks for the heads up and the great pictures.
Ping to everyone - post 9857 - IMO the greatest horse who ever lived :)
(Duchess47 who owns one of his grandsons)
Sounds like a lot of fun.
I would have love to have seen a pairing of Secretariat and Ruffian.
Wow - some course. Great obstacles there. I love that roan, what a beautiful horse.
Pinging Tuscaloosa Goldfinch to pics of the Extreme Trail Horse Competition on post 9860. We haven’t heard from you in a while. How’re ya doing and what’ve you been up to? How’s TheNewHorse working out?
I can see you doing “extreme”. Heck you really already do:’) I was watching this on tv awhile back. The only one that I saw that many of the horses hesitated on was that tarp curtain. Some would stop and then hurry on thru. Then there were the one’s that would peek thru first.
The “water” obstacle hung up quite a few of them too. I would have figured that the “fishing” obstacle would’ve freaked some of them out, with that big white bag coming at them, seemingly of it’s own accord, but most of them did real well with that. I guess most of them had been sacked out pretty good when they were broke.
I said that they could’ve made the mailbox obstacle much more challenging if there’d been a goat (or a hog) in a pen right next to it. That might have washed out too much of the field right off the bat though. ;o)
I think it's the fishing pole thing that would send him over the edge if we had to reel it to us. ;~)
I thought you said the SECOND week in SEPT. Isn't that the 1st week???
Well, I figured out how to do italics and now I can't get it to stop!
