This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Since the horse forum is still down and who knows when it will be back up, I joined a new horse forum and have been looking for the people who got scattered to the winds... many are showing up here:
Hello - Refugee from Horse.com here, which appears to be down in a big way. - Horse Forums (HGS)
So I've been spending most of my time there, learning my way around. It's a pretty good forum, once you figure out all it's bells and whistles.
Good morning and thanks for the link. I just checked again this morning and HF is still down. Maybe they fired everyone??? :)
Have a trainer working with Lace and Slick - they aren’t happy with it, but are learning quite a bit :)
Got pictures? :~)
I finally did get my pictures from the St. Jude ride downloaded off my camera. I didn't take all that many and some were duplicates of HaveFaith's, but here's some of them...
Kari and Faith...
The chocolate champagne we were talking about earlier in the week. He has light skin and eyes like Kari's Faith but a MUCH darker color. I like his saddle too. It's a Buena Vista type. People who ride them claim they're extremely comfortable.
One of my old friends, Donny, on his little roan Bullet. I love that horse! He has such a cute personality...Well, they both do.
Just a crowd shot house where they serve lemonade and cookies. They're so nice to do that because you're always SO hot by the time you get there!
A shot of Bob and Hope comisserating with each other. It shows that treeless saddle on Hope that I bought a while back. Elizabeth's ridden it twice now and she really likes it. Me not so much. She'd like to have it so I may sell it to her if she can come up with the cash. That's a big "if" though. BladeRider likes it too, so maybe I just haven't given it a proper chance. I guess I'm kinda hooked on my old Ortho Flex.
Ah - good pics of horses and people. :~)
It’s an interesting saddle, I don’t remember it before. I would like that handle in the front for taking kids for pony rides... it gives them a good handle to hold on to!
Does Hope have a white spot on her butt, or did she get bombed by a passing seagull? :~)
How’s your ankle?
Faith, I really like your Faith... very pretty. :~)
So how are you doing? Are you able to work?
LOL not yet but I will. Bob said he backed Lace yesterday (this is the filly that four days ago destroyed one of the panels in the round pen, expressing her thoughts on saddles and horse trainers).
Oooh ouch. Well, maybe she got it out of her system.
Great pictures. I like that little roan too - like the way he’s built. All beautiful horses though - don’t believe I’ve ever seen a champagne up close and personal.
I like the looks of Frog's treeless saddle, too. That' s the first time I had seen it.
:) Hard to say - she threw an appaloosa mad but I guess Troy convinced her that she wasn’t all that scary and he had just as much staying power as her. Hopefully she’ll settle down now and learn.
Hope's body color is nearly white when she's dry but she turns a dark gray when wet so I think that white spot is where the water didn't penetrate to the skin for some reason when I sponged her off at the water trough. Maybe she had some dried snot or something on her hip that made the water run off. Strange!
It is handy that way, but that handle has a purpose other than just a hand-hold. If you look closely, you'll see a little cross-piece going from one side of the arch to the other. It works like a turnbuckle and can be twisted to make the arch either wider or narrower, so the gullet of the saddle will fit a wide variety of horses. It's kind of like the CAIR interchangeable gullet system in the Wintec saddles, only better.
Oh, let me just say "I'm getting by". It's a trial for sure. I've got a big black ski-boot-looking thing that goes all the way to my knee, but at least I don't have a cast and can take it off when I want to, so I'm thankful for that. Kari loaned me some crutches, which I'm finally beginning to master. They're a heck of a lot easier than that walker I was trying to use. They're aggravating my shoulder though, so what's a girl to do?! Hopefully I won't have to use them too much longer and can just hobble around on the boot and give the shoulder a rest. I'm supposed to have an MRI on the shoulder as soon as they get authorization from my insurance. Then maybe I'll know if it will eventually heal or if it's going to require some surgery before it gets any better. The thumb is good though, so at least that's one less thing to worry with. This just ain't been my summer! ;o)
It sure hasn't!
I hope it's ALL feeling better soon.
In taking a break from mowing. This last little section I'd thought I could finish up in a day just isn't getting smaller! It's hot and I'm lazy.
By the time you get done mowing one side the other side is going to need it again! You need to get you a riding mower or something.
Not sure yet. I’m still collecting it.
I don’t want a riding mower, I keep thinking all this mowing will make me thin! But it doesn’t seem to be working that way.
It’s all done!
And it’s not growing any time soon, not until we get some rain. Might drizzle this weekend but it won’t be enough.
Now I need to go around the outside perimeter again, and then start tackling the back forty.
Well good job on getting it done! You’ve got more fortitude than I do!
