FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

$3000 seems super cheap for your MH. It’s in really nice condition. And I can understand keeping it.

I wonder if a camp trailer would be an even better idea for us though, and cheaper, than maintaining another engine.

Heh... we had that truck and camper here, that I gave away for free.

It still boggles my mind that you’re doing that with a PUSH MOWER!
D@MN, that’s dedication!

So your Dad’s coming today to buy you a freezer? That’ll be nice! Where you gonna put it? My BIL bought an older used one and put it in the other half of the duplex from us since we’d had the power turned when we started storing stuff in there. They raise and butcher about 6 hogs at a time and he needed extra freezers for all the meat. He’s already got about 3 full at his place and had run out of room, so this worked out well for me since we can use it too. So far I’ve bought some big frozen pizzas and a bunch of different frozen entres and about 20 pounds of frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts that I got on sale. I like it!

It’s cute! our freezer. We put it in the “dining” room which we don’t use as a dining room anyway... it’s the dog feeding place and a hallway to the kitchen ;~)

The one we got is a chest type, but small, 5 cubic feet. We don’t need a big one, but it would be nice to be able to buy some of the bulk meat, hams, turkeys and such when they’re on sale. Up till now we’ve just had the small freezer on the fridge.

In taking a break from the mowing. At least it’s a self powered mower :~)

So the horse forum seems to be down in a major kind of way...

I collected $100 for St. Jude here in Leighton. That’s the most I’ve gotten in the 3 years I’ve done it. ‘Course 60% came from 1 place.

Pull behinds are cheaper to maintain. It depends on what you want to do. If you want to be able to take your horses with you, then a MH is better. The problem with MH is unless you pull a vehicle behind it, your kind of stuck when you get your camp set up, to go anywhere else you have to break your entire camp.

That’s what Jimmy, our friend does. There is always someone in the group with a truck if they need to go somewhere. His will sleep way more than ours.

Frog: Did you ever get any hay? Hal brought home 20 square bales yesterday of Jimmy’s fescue and clover. He cleaned up and waxed Jimmy’s truck (inside & out) and helped him do the hay all morning so I guess they traded.

Well, I hoped to finish mowing today, but there’s still one good day’s mowing left and my feet hurt. So - another day. I’m done :~)

Wow, you done good!

I used to be able to get around $150 here in the office, but they’ve got rules against solicitation now unless it’s company approved so I can’t collect anymore. I’ll just make a donation out of my own pocket and count if off on my taxes.

No, not got any yet, but there a Coen man on 101 that’s got some mixed Bermuda bales in the barn that I’m probably going to get for $4 a bale. I’ve just got to make time to go get it.

My BIL brought home some 5x5 mixed grass rolls the other day for $20 a roll that looked pretty good. If my other Bermuda deal doesn’t pan out I may just go buy about 20 or so rolls of that. It’ll be for the mares at the in-law’s and that’ll be plenty for them. They’ve got some Johnson Grass in them but for the price, I can afford for them to waste a good bit of it. I paid $50 a roll last year for the pure Bermuda. I’ve got about 18 rolls of that left over from last year that’ll do for the ones at Michael’s.

Oh that’s good to know... although, I think these horses still give off their share of emissions. ;~)

Boy I don’t know what to do with the baby - maybe hot compress or icthamal which is a drawing agent I believe. Seems like it would just go away by itself.

Yep, down here. At first I thought work had blocked it or something but down at home also. The rest of the website works fine though.

Nice looking lawn mowers :) Bob did that the other day - only one at a time though except Rocky and Farah. He said Rocky had a ball running and cutting up.

You know... Bay had one of those once... I big boob right on his side. Vet came out, nothing he wanted to do... said it would just reabsorb, and gravity may make it sink down... for Bay, it sank down under his belly and seemed like it was there forever but it did reabsorb in a few weeks.

For yours, it may sink down his leg, or wherever the lowest point is it can go.

Tree? What’s a tree :)

That's what struck me most about Nevada. No trees. No green grass... just shades of brown.
